When you're teaching about an event like the Ocoee massacre, where dozens of blacks were killed and all the rest run out of town because a few blacks tried to vote .... make sure you point out the bad stuff blacks did.

When Florida students learn about the capitol riots of 2021, they'll also have to be instructed on Hunter Biden dick pics.

These people are sick. They are mentally ill. They are corrupt. How does any rational human being think that he or she will benefit from electing these people?

If true and final, looks like a step too far.

You can teach nuanced history without performing the slavery equivalent of "Mussolini made the trains run on time."

I am convinced that change was needed in education, but we're getting a bunch of cases of overcorrection. The Florida Department of Education needs to dial it back a bit.

Goes to the motivation of the movement. Clearly this was the goal the whole time with the base of the GOP complicit through willful ignorance. It's why you can't even crack the door on this stuff. The system was working well before it became deeply corrupted to "fix" the faux corruption.

a few would be blacksmithing, farming, cooking, dress making, construction. These are all true and factual. Most southern slaves stayed in the south and became paid laborers with these skills. Again, that is the history. Do you want to ignore it?

the problem for Florida (if the story is true), and for which I agree with all the outrage here, is that Florida would be attempting to attribute a “benefit” to enslavement (again, if the accusations are true) which are akin to saying Mussolini got the trains to run (as one poster noted) or Hitler loved dogs. I think Florida could treat this subject with a more realistic, honest approach by mentioning the skills attained, but then reminding the kids that the South continued the concept of slavery well past Lincoln’s death by sharecropping, Jim Crow etc. Nothing wrong with teaching truth in history, just don’t white wash it. Under no circumstances should any teacher anywhere try to attribute anything good from the scourge of global slavery (not just American) or suggest that slavery was beneficial to the enslaved.

with that said, I take any media attack on Florida/Desantis with a grain of salt as they usually turn out to be fake news. I have not read the text of the bill which is the subject matter of this post.

LOL, this is not a bill. These standards are set by the state board of education with members selected by DeSantis.

I think that you misunderstood my comment. The reason that I think that you wouldn’t want to believe it is because you’re a decent person and can’t believe that this is what the state would do. My apologies.
