New “patriotic” development requires homeowners to fly the US flag

My wife is the baseball fan. I have a passing interest in the Marlins (because I grew up down there) and the Orioles (first game I saw as a kid), but the only sports I'm passionate about are the Gators and the NHL.

 

Is it common for HOAs to demand Christmas lights in particularly or are they described as winter lights, which I believe predated Christianity and aren't required based upon any Christian doctrine I'm aware of?

 

I hope the Braves have a miserable weekend. But I have lost all confidence after losing 5 straight, 13 of 23 and being swept at home

 

There are at least three different neighborhoods here in Dallas I'm aware of that require it. I haven't seen the latest copy of their bylaws to know if they call them Christmas or winter lights, but does it really make that much difference for the semantics? It's the same result.

 

There is an Orange and Blue lighted crèche which I have. I swear I didn’t order it for the colors, though I will never persuade my wife of innocent intentions in that regard

I'm not sure either really applies to the flag example, per se, but I was sincerely interested in the analogy. HOA rules are private, but any resulting liens would have to ultimately be enforced by the state and the courts. The enforcement of mandated religious displays raises several issues in my mind, though I don't know if they would be upheld or not. Rather than mandate Christmas lights, could an HOA ban displays associated with Judaism or Islam by the same reasoning (that it's a private decision and people can choose to join or not)?

 

I worry that the braves hot start will jinx them in the playoffs. Sort of like the gators eruption in game 2 of the finals.

 

I seem to recall after 9/11 that some mobile home park in Florida required a guy to take down his Canadian flag.

 

I hear you. Just thinking about this weekend. A special charter is going to Seattle after this weekend' series with 11 All-Stars. Would be 12 except Yandy is staying with his wife while she gives birth before taking a special flight

 

I'm pretty sure their lawyers are smarter than I am and would have thought of or reacted to past incidents arising from those intricacies. I'm betting that the bylaws only say lights must be hung and specify the type and minimum amount to avoid the legal exposure.

 

That’s their decision not mind so I don’t care either way.
