Mine not only specifies paint colors for wall and trim, but the store you have to purchase your paint from. They changed our official mailbox several years ago and everyone had to purchase one for $300. Our garage doors can only be open when cars are entering or exiting the garage. No overnight street parking. No work trucks, RVs or boats unless garaged. A list of approved landscaping plants. No flags or signage except the American flag and one for sale sign. That list is not exhaustive, mine is a very heavily regulated neighborhood.
I don't disagree. But as I said if people would actually read the governing documents before buying, alot of hassle would be avoided. People love the idea of rules to protect their investment until it affects what they want to do.
I live in an old Tampa neighborhood where are all the South Tampa types are moving in, knocking down the trees and old houses and infilling with nondescript boxes. You don’t get cease and desist letters; you get disapproving looks for looking insufficiently rich and beautiful.
What an overreaction. HOA's require stupid stuff all the time. There are some that require permission TO fly a flag. No one 9s forced to do anything because no one is forced to buy a house. Some HOAs have houses all the same color. Some require no cars outside of garages. Some wont let you put wreaths on a door without approval. The Nazi talk is nuts... And some of you likely live in such an HOA. I actually moved out of 9ne and bought a little land to avoid such nonsense, but HOA's are militant anyway, so why the fuss.

This isnt an old HOA forcing anything. That would be different. If an alternative lifestyle neighborhood wants to start up with such rules, more power to them. Absolutely no issue with their right to do so.

You're probably 1 lawsuit away from someone claiming it is against their religion to put up idols and a flag is an idol or something. Not really sure.
Nobody is saying people can't move there and HOAs can't do this. Good lord, talk about a strawman. Simply pointing out how requiring someone to fly an American flag isn't freedom. In fact it's the opposite and quite ironic.

We fly 2 flags. Small Gator yard flag is permanent and a majority of time a standard size American. As much as I love both, it would look pretty tacky it every house was required them. 4.
