As far as I can tell with the information available today, that’s not what happened. Those border forts were not undermanned, and the operation to take them down was done with a great deal of meticulous planning.

Never mind, it is just not worth the time or the effort to explain this to you, especially after your little Bibi Oct 7th Truther LIHOP rant.

Lots of planning, including cyber. But I have also heard undermanned, including nearby available reserves. Weapons too. Nothing authoritative, and can't recall exact source, but saw that somewhere

That operation showed a level of sophistication that not a lot of people in the intel world thought Hamas had. Turning water pipes into rockets? Sure. Able to blind Israeli ISR capabilities and achieve a catastrophic break out of a prepared defense? Nope.

So you got your Trump marching orders and are now firmly anti-Bibi? A shocking turn of events.

Welcome to the anti-Bibi club I guess. Not that it matters. Biden’s tight with him. He’s isn’t going anywhere now. Guy’s like a political cockroach.

    Your reading comprehension is poor.

I specifically said I wasn’t necessarily against it, just that was a bit more “sketchy” to bomb a government official. Even one that is a clear malign actor. If Russia or Iran assassinated one of ours, it would be a declaration of war.

Bin-Laden was a very special target, so my initial reaction is that it’s an absurd comparison. We literally declared war to take him and his organization out. But i suppose it’s a fair point the raid had similar “is this really legal?” issues due to being in sovereign Pakistani territory, and despite that we almost universally praised that raid. It’s notable that wasn’t a drone strike, we sent the seals in there and confirmed the body. Definitely ballsy all around (both the call to accomplish it that way inside Pakistan, and those who executed it)…

Daaaang. Scathing comment, but it unfortunately has some truth to it. I guess if the shoe fits, skim enough off the top to get you and your friends some Air Jordans. Hopefully our hometown level of corruption is at a lesser scale than what is obvious with foreign aid.

No doubt it was a surprisingly coherent operation, that’s where Israel’s on the ground intel failure is shocking. Even if you ignore the supposed 3 days warning, how were they blind to the paragliders, boats, thousands of militants?. You’d think they could at least see that… as surely it must’ve taken at least a few hours for all that to coalesce and get organized on the ground before attacking. If there was also a cyberattack… then that obviously raises the specter of Iranian/Russian involvement.

Obviously some Israeli troops were killed in the areas of the attack, whether they had “normal” or adequate levels of troops there is what will have to be investigated. Hard for us Americans to really say at this point. We are just getting speculation, rumors, innuendo (and misinformation). I’m sure Israel will have their own 9/11 commission styled report years from now, giving some semblance of a coherent accounting. But even something like that will likely leave much up to debate (esp for the conspiracy theorist types).

Trump’s calculus is that after this is over Bibi is through politically. They were once close, but Bibi can’t do anything for him anymore

I think it is funny that you think Trump is able to do calculus of any kind and algebra is still a stretch. Trump lives in the next 10 minutes. If Bibi ends up having a huge military success, Trump will be saying he is closer to Bibi than any other POTUS ever thought of being.

In case you are looking for something to do tomorrow

The Hamas terror group has called on its supporters to hold a "Day of Rage" on Friday and to harm Jews and Israelis around the world.

Israelis abroad asked to take caution amid Hamas calls to riot

Because it is about "both sides" and land for Peace.

I don’t know the answers to why they were so unprepared. Truly, I don’t. The best historical analogy that comes to mind is Pearl Harbor. We had all kinds of indications and warnings that “something big” was coming, so we prepared … for what we thought was coming, not for what did come. The idea of Japan crossing the Pacific to hit Pearl was ludicrous; they were going to hit us in the Philippines, Guam, etc, and our response was going to be to sortie the fleet from Pearl to go to their relief. Then when they hit us the way they did, and now — holy schnikies! — we have no fleet to send to the relief of our Western Pacific territories, and the Japanese are able to take them down piecemeal.

So what if maybe, just maybe, the Israeli government got a warning that “something big” was about to happen, maybe the intelligence services couldn’t substantiate it, maybe the government looked at all of its problem areas and determined that Gaza was its most secure area (a reasonable assumption) and allocated whatever excess resources it had toward West Bank and Hezbollah? I guess we will see.

    Warthogs on patrol.

It's hard for me to envision the mission that will be appropriate for the particular brand of lethal close air support this plane brings in the environment that we are envisioning right now, but hostiles know the sound of those fan motors and take whatever cover is available.
