A wise man, and pretty much the case for egalitarianism in a nutshell

    Positive update:

In Haifa and Jaffa, joint Jewish and Arab patrols seek to prevent violence on both sides. In the south, Bedouin residents risk their lives to search for victims of Hamas terror. In the shadow of war, Arab-Jewish solidarity initiatives emerge

Attributed to the Athenians in the Melian Dialogue according to Thucydides. An early example of the international theory of Realism actually stated out loud.

I learn something new. Regardless of who, much truth, although, IMO, pure realism should always try to be avoided

I think it’s fair game if they are in an active war-zone or area controlled by warlords. It’s not like you are going to send the FBI to go arrest terrorists in their strongholds. The drone or missile indeed may be the only real option if you get the intel as to where they are. If an American citizen is holed up with some of the “most wanted” terrorists on foreign soil, they don’t get any special consideration in the theater of war.

I thought Trumps assassination of the Iranian general crossed a different line because it took place at a civilian airport. In an area pretty well under Iraqi govt control. Obviously it was a bad dude we killed. So my feelings weren’t strongly against. But its legality and wisdom was… I guess sketchy is the word.

My answer to that is, it depends. Realism and liberal internationalism have different rules, and you can’t play one by the other’s rules. You have to play by the rules of the game you’re in, or you’ll lose. If you win, you can change the game. Unfortunately, Russia, China, and Iran have set the game.

Putting aside the legality, I really thought we would have experienced blow back already on that, but it hasn't happened yet. Of course, the Iranians work on their own time frame, we may have thwarted attempts. But I remain pleasantly surprised

If what Trump said is true about Netanyahu, not wanting a part of the Soleimani assassination, but taking credit for it afterwards, that explains a great deal.

What makes the line blurry is that for those kinds of killings, oftentimes the closer question is whether it violates the US ban on “assassinations” rather than “international law.”

What the international law of war discusses are killings through “treachery” or “perfidy” (essentially killing someone through trickery or putting a bounty on their head), which probably doesn’t cover that kind of strike. To the extent the target is in a non-combatant nation you get the additional argument of whether it’s within the “self-defense” right under the UN Charter, but that’s a circumstance-specific question and not one that applies to targeted killings generally.

And with respect to the US ban, even if it did apply, it derives from an executive order that the president could just modify or withdraw if he wanted to.

This, like most things starting with that qualifier, can likely be easily answered with “it probably isn’t.”

The man is a sociopathic liar, so that’s a helluva “if”.

And listen to the Biden clowns attempt to play us for fools, seizing upon Trump saying Hezbollah is “very smart”, while demanding Biden to refreeze the $6 billion in Iranian assets. I would say Hamas and Hezbollah are indeed very smart to be able to pull off an attack like this, without Israel having a faint knowledge of its origin. Why would we ever return any funds to Iran?

perhaps poorly worded by myself, but you have no proof or evidence that his words aren’t true. In fact, they make perfect sense, because otherwise Netanyahu would have taken out Soleimani long before Trump ever did.

I’ll quibble slightly that the fact Trump said them is at least some evidence that they’re not true, the question is just how powerful that evidence is in this particular circumstance.

Stop cucking for the Dems. There will be more and more information about Netanyahu and his intelligence failures regarding this over the next few weeks. I suspect most of, if not all of Trump’s words will be validated.
