They killed indiscriminately, so I’m inclined to assume a number of children and perhaps young children or even babies killed (we know there were in those rural villages where they either killed or kidnapped entire families). The story circulating on social media about 40 infants beheaded seems like it might be propaganda unless it’s verified from official sources. That wouldn’t even make sense based on the casualty count unless they came upon a NICU hospital ward or something. 260 of the Israeli dead were at the music festival alone.

Most of the people in Gaza now are just people pushed out of Israel proper a long time ago, its a refugee camp turned into basically what it is now. Given the youth of the population, I'm not sure what else they know.

This is the rub, though, isn't it?

Obviously, nothing justifies what Hamas did, but when you bomb city blocks in retaliation, blowback is inevitable. People on the ground aren't thinking about Israel's need to defend itself or the fact that Hamas's disgusting acts of terrorism started this round of fighting. All they see is an Israeli missile blowing up their homes and families. That radicalizes an appreciable fraction of the people there, which will inevitably lead to more terrorist attacks in the future.

I don't have a good answer, however. It's clear Israel can't just let these attacks happen and give Hamas free reign to murder their civilians. But it's equally clear that violence will only beget more violence. How do you solve something like this? It seems there is no answer.

Both sides have a large vested interest in painting the other as thr barbarians on social media. I wouldn't believe a thing I read there without concrete documentation

Not that anything is funny about this, but DT is inadvertently channeling Borat

No surprise, at the beginning of every war there are sensational stories like this (at the beginning of WWI there were wild stories about Germans raping nuns and impaling babies with bayonets). This is not to say atrocities arent happening, just the more banal ones that happen in any war.

I don’t know, these seem worse, although likely not worse than what happened in Ukraine.

There is an answer, someone has to break the cycle, the spiral of violence. It is not easy removed from political constraints, close to impossible with them, unless people and leaders act with real courage. I'm not optimistic about that happening, particularly given who is running things in Israel and Hamas' grip after the alternatives have deliberately been marginalized or eradicated by both Israel and Hamas.

IDF is the Isreal Defense Forces. They have direct quotes from people with IDF on the ground there.

Not sure what more of a confirmation is needed.

The cycle is unbreakable outside of religious overhaul.

Every time Israel gives peace, Hamas does something like this.

This time they did it at a level they have not before.

A lot of wild stories circulated at the beginning of that war too, whether it was killings or made up stories about heroic Ukrainian resistance. Social media doesnt help at all in that regard.

What does give "peace" mean? Stop killing them or displacing them temporarily while under occupation? Certainly not anything like self-determination or even integration into society.

Unless…Jesus returns and claims a new region as a new spiritual sacred ground.
If this happens, hope it’s inside China.

If Israel is intent on being a Jewish identitarian state rather than a multiethnic/religious democracy of equals, this is true.

How can there be reader context when the original tweet had no story or photo?
At the most, the context should just say, that there is no proof of this.

Anyhow I have never heard of that massacer. Once again humanity shows just how ugly we can be... Even worse, no one seems to of paid any price for it. Context is misleading as it was a Lebanese Forces militia with the UN commission finding Israel was directly or indirectly involved.

I am not going to pretend like the world is some amazing place and that people just give up conquered lands. The world and humanity have never been that way.
You call it occupation... it was land conquered by the Jews for what 60-plus years now?
I can both agree that what the Zionists did back then was wrong and understand that Israel today has conquered that land.
Does Isreal kill the people of Gaza without first being attacked?

You just said the Israelis conquered it, so who attacked who? How far back are you going? Some of these people are descendents of people displaced by the establishment of Israel itself. There have been plenty of failures in determining the fate of these people, and they've often been removed from the process in many cases as geopolitical games are played, the blame does not fall on one party, or even just Israel and Palestine. This didn't just start over the weekend.
