It was under blockade by Israel for many years, they couldn’t even use the beaches or swim in the waters because of contamination by raw sewage. It was basically a prison. An active trading port? Lolno.

The sad thing is the beach actually had been cleaned up and Israel had “allowed” for more freedoms for the Palestenians in the very recent years leading up to the attack, albeit still as second class citizens. So some Palestenians had just tasted some degree of normalcy basically for the first time in their lives.

Well, can’t blame Israel for Egypt closing their border ….. and apparently Egypt’s failure to employ folks from Gaza. Further, why are do many Gazans dependent upon Israel for employment? Shouldn’t Gazans and Hamas focused on developing their economy to provide domestic employment. Just seems Hamas had the funds and ability to procure weapons used to attack Israel ….. and chose not to develop greater self-reliance.

Seems it’s just too easy and illogical to fault Israel for problems experienced by Gaza …. when those problems are really self-inflicted and caused by Iran.

As I said, Palestinians have more than their share of blame. And the rest of the Arab world treats the Palestinian as like dirt too, even while trumpeting their cause for their own ends.
But what business is going to open an office or factory there when it’s at Israel’s whim? No one really. And with no natural resources either, they will always be completely dependent on their neighbors, Israel included. Especially when Israel has the water routes.

Hillarious. You just have zero clue. Likewise why don’t the prisoners at Rikers stop complaining about their shitty economic conditions and focus on building a light manufacturing business (other than license plates).

Uhh… Israel occupied Gaza for decades. Then when they left, it was a blockade. A prison city. What type of economy can exist under those conditions? Seriously. Come on. They probably can’t even supply 1% of their food needs out of there.

Of course the Palestenians have plenty of blame on their side. The PLO was a joke. Hamas is a terror organization. But it’s not really like the Palestenians vote for that. They voted for Hamas once after dissatisfaction with the PLO and that was basically the end of any democratic process there at all. Technically id wonder what % of Palestenians have ever voted at all, considering how notoriously young their population is i’d bet most weren’t even alive the last time they had an election there, let alone voted in it. Seriously. The avg age is 18. Last election was 2006. Do the math. It’s a shitty situation. Part of the reason it’s fertile ground for terrorists, is it’s densely populated area stocked with 18 year olds mostly with no future. You can’t possibly think Israel is helping themselves here? Obviously they needed to respond and route Hamas, but turning the whole thing to rubble was always going to end badly. Meanwhile the Hamas $$$ and leadership sits comfortably in Qatar.

Israel didn't impose the blockade on Gaza until Hamas began firing rockets from the Gaza strip into Israel and let's not forget that instead of building infrastructure that would have benefited civilian Palestinian residents of Gaza Hamas used concrete and steel to construct a network of tunnels larger than the NYC subway system.

Israel had extended an olive branch, and the Palestenians living in Gaza probably had the best lives they’d had in decades.

The Hamas attack was solely responsible for that lost opportunity. Don’t mistake what I’m saying as anything else. Hamas is the party responsible.

BUT, Israel is responsible for their actions too - and I find it difficult to support the extent of destruction they are responding with. Maybe it’s just an impossible situation. But blocking food aid and striking targets that are in designated “safe zones” is just total inexcusable horse crap. Of course we have U.S. politicians saying we should essentially (or even literally) nuke Gaza, so maybe some actually ascribe to that sort of madness.

lol, they could’ve built a country but instead spent the money building tunnels and buying weapons to attack Israel. They have a port and elected their own terrorists to run their country. That’s a them problem.

It's atrocious and subhuman what the Jewish Zionist Supremacists are doing in Palestine. The indiscriminate bombings and missiles are killing so many innocent Palestinians who had zero to do with the October 7 uprising.

Forcing the Palestinians into the south of Gaza into concentration camps so the Zionist missiles could kill as many innocent people as possible per missile was an evil and devious plan. This happened and is indisputable. This was done in the name of sparing innocent civilians. Bennie and his goons laughed.

Now the Palestinians have been forced into Rafah where they will be slaughtered like shooting fish in a barrel. The evil Zionists are licking their chops and are happy that they can save a lot of money on missiles per Palestinian killed. There is nowhere else these refugees can go. They cannot escape nor go anywhere else. Food is non-existent, medicine is non-existent and disease is rampant. Make no mistake, the Palestinians are in concentration camps.

It's ironic and highly hypocritical that the Zionists are committing these atrocities and genocide, essentially causing a Palestinian Holocaust.

I expect more from "God's Chosen People."

Come at me and call me an antisemite. I am NOT an antisemite. I love Jewish people, but abhor the current Zionist government of israel.

Just preposterous. But yeah, let's stick with your "proportion/relative numbers" theme for a second...

Israel has now killed approximately 20x the number of casualties it sustained in the terrorist attacks, with estimates of 70% of those being women and children. With no apparent end in sight.

So in your hypothetical of the 30x larger USA sustaining 54,000 casualties, would the USA then kill 20x that amount? Proportionately, that would be 1.08 MILLION people killed in return, with over 700,000 of them being women and children. That, my friend, would be referred to as WAR CRIMES, which incidentally is EXACTLY what the Israeli campaign in Gaza should, and in the light of history WILL be referred to as.

No, I do not think that would be an acceptable response to your hypothetical attack on the USA. Nor do I think the US populace would tolerate that for a second.

Your "relative numbers/proportion" analogy only serves to make the WAR CRIMES of Israel that much more obviously reprehensible. And this numerical comparison completely overlooks the fact that this campaign by Israel, this murder of civilians, is not even an effective method to prevent future terrorism. Most experts in fact consider it precisely the opposite.

    Simply preposterous.

Edit : And we haven't even factored in the impending starvation in Gaza as a result of the Israeli WAR CRIMES.

Northern Gaza could be hit by famine any time between mid-March and May, and more than 70 percent of Gaza’s 2.3 million population is facing “catastrophic hunger”, a United Nations-backed report published on Monday has warned.

Famine in northern Gaza is imminent as more than 1 million people face ‘catastrophic’ levels of hunger, new report warns | CNN

Shall we continue with your comparative numbers? That is appx 1.6 million people in Gaza facing near or legitimate starvation. This would mean your hypothetical US response would result in 30x that, or 48 MILLION (!!) people facing starvation.

Does this proportionate comparison somehow make the Israeli WAR CRIMES more acceptable? Simply preposterous.

If Israel attempt to go into Rafah there should be no safe haven for their leadership in the free word. Arrest them if the leave the country, try them at The Hague heck maybe intervene militarily.

Turn Israel into an open air prison of its own.

I haven't seen you around these parts since you accused me of being an anti-semite because I was questioning the indiscriminate bombings of the innocent Palestinian people and the sub-human Zionists' bloodthirsty ways.

Israel controls their port. You can’t build a country when you don’t have control over your own land.
And again I said the Palestinians aren’t innocents, they have more than their share of blame. But the idea that Israel is some white knight in all of this belies reality.

Additionally, clearly a large percentage of Israelis do not support this invasion of Gaza. (anyone with more recent/accurate data please post it)

JERUSALEM, Oct 27 (Reuters) - Almost half of Israelis want to hold off on any invasion of Gaza, according to a poll published on Friday....

    https://www.reuters.com/world/middl...support-holding-off-gaza-invasion-2023-10-27/

So let's cease with the absurd labelling of anyone opposed to this response as being anti-semitic, rather than as being opposed to WAR CRIMES.

Jewish people are as innocent as the Palestinians in this asymmetrical war. Jewish people are not to blame, instead it is the Zionist Supremacists' genocide and holocaust of the Palestinians.

The “Holocaust”, which is an “interesting” word to use to say the least…is in no small part because the Palestinian fighters hide like cowards among civilians and bring them into the war. Israel either has to accept they will cause a certain level of civilian deaths or let the fighters continue their work with impunity. Just look at what they had at the hospital.

Precisely. It is solely the leadership of Hamas and the current leadership of Israel that benefits from this war.

And no, being opposed to Netanyahu does not make one anti-Semitic.
