Not to be discounted is Moscows probable role in this. We need to redouble aid to Ukraine.

I think it almost certainly an attempt to block SA normalization, although there are always multiple causes. But the sheer brutality of the attack and tactics ultimately does not serve Iranian interests. The civilized world needs to end Hamas. I hope they can. Scary times

Given your other entries, I cannot tell if this is meant to be snarky or not. Please elaborate on Moscow’s role.

It’s not a matter of debate that Moscow is building even closer ties with Iran. They are buying drones and crappy missiles from them. Sound like they’d be highly interested if helping fund this attack. Saying this as a reasonable person not a geo political military expert.
I’m sure our being buddy buddy with SA as well is helping draw them together.

There was a public meeting with Hamas in Moscow in the spring. What that has to do with yesterday, if anything, is unclear

I highly doubt Moscow had any role. There are too many Russian Jews living in Israel and Israel has been an important partner for the Kremlin.

The history of that area is a friggin mess and almost impossible to follow… at least when you start with the wiki article in Palestine.

Given Israel merely lukewarm support of Ukraine to this point, that seems unwise by Moscow. Expanding the war by sowing additional chaos into the global picture seems to run at cross purposes to Russia’s ends. Then again, tyrants do silly things that make things worse when wars aren’t going to their strict liking. Napoleon and Hitler both invaded Russia, for instance. I guess we will see.

Hopefully the “eye for an eye” won’t escalate like a fission chain reaction… for real.

Nothing quite brings the post-colonialists out of the wood work like a good old fashioned jihad attack against Israel.

USS Gerald R. Ford task force to the Eastern mediterranean, ostensibly to be ready to evacuate, but I speculate that this is to keep Hezbollah in check as part of a concerted strategy

Yep, the Turks had that whole area under a pretty strong thumb until the end of WWI, and that harsh control was partially necessary due to the havoc started and restarted over a couple crusades. Did I gleen anything correctly from the wiki article?

I cannot imagine a realistic scenario where Israel uses nuclear weapons.
