To show it wasn't a gimmick, that we could make more. Also ending the war faster, so they had little contribution in that theater to make demands over territory or influence in the region.

I forget where I heard it, but the term is "statementese" - all the debate around this is full of carefully crafted language, or trying to say the right things without maybe meaning it, as if we are all brands trying to put out the perfect statement that covers all the bases. To me its nonsensical to say you want to protect civilians but a ceasefire is non-negotiable, but that is pretty much the US government's stated position.

It's been a couple weeks. I was curious to see current photos but I haven't found any.

With Israel pretty much controlling the narative at this point via power outages and communications blockades, I'm wondering what the actual damage is at this point in time.

So again, tell me how it's possible to eliminate Hamas without having civilian casualties. I'll wait.

Wow. I would not have thought they would go this far. I don't know if the Kremlin is foolishly thinking that the world will really think they don't control Wagner and this is rogue. Israel can counter this but it will require a lot more resources and reduction in pace

Iran, in my view, is a Russian puppet. This doesn't surprise me. Besides, anything that takes the US' eyes of Ukraine is good for the Kremlin. I wouldn't be surprised if the Kremlin green-lighted the 7 October attacks. Supposedly they had been planned for 2 years.

Biden administration highlights efforts to address antisemitism on college campuses | CNN Politics
    CNN —

The Biden administration is announcing new actions Monday aimed at combating a dangerous scourge of antisemitic incidents on college campuses across the country in the wake of the Hamas terror attacks on Israel.

The White House highlighted a series of steps taken by the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice and the Department of Education, including engagement with campus law enforcement officials, which comes amid rising tension on college campuses. President Joe Biden on Monday told reporters he’s “very” concerned about the rise of antisemitism.

Perhaps there is already a National Strategy to Combat Anti-Semitism.

Oh wait, that was bomb the shit out of Germany and then invade it until Hitler kills himself.

They have a pretty deep de facto alliance now due to common interests in preserving the Alawite dynasty in Syria and more importantly being international pariahs under sanction.

But Iran has told them off when Russia tried to dictate Iran's role in Syria or requested temporary basing.

A lot of their worldview has to do with memories of "imperial aggression" from both the West and Russia because of their strategic position between Russia and British interests like Aden and later Mideast oil. The Shah overthrown in 79 had been installed by the Brits and Russia

    From Wiki

    British and Soviet operation 1941–42[edit]
The British and Russians initially stated their reason for invading Iran was the Iranian government's failure to rid the country of Germans, who supposedly were planning an eventual coup d'etat.[28] Yet there were other reasons for the invasion, and the Trans-Iranian Railways key location as part of the so-called "Persian Corridor" was one of the primary reasons for the Anglo-Soviet invasion of Iran in World War II. Despite Reza Shah's attempts to remain neutral, the allies decided it would be most effective to remove Reza Shah from the throne, using his young son,[29] instead to assist in their use of the Trans-Iranian Railway to transport oil to Britain, and supplies to the Soviet Union

Those and related episodes of Russian domination are burned deep in memory. They will work transactionally, but in no way would they be a puppet

Gaza has been blockaded since 2005, before Hamas took control of the government in Gaza.
