. We killed and/or injured 200,000 Japanese in a ‘non proportional’ attack on Hiroshima and Nagasaki….Most of which were civilian, because we calculated it would cost millions of US casualties to invade the island of Japan. Thankfully our leaders back then recognized it was their duty to protect US lives and not have the lives of Japanese supersede the concern for US personnel. But that was back when we fought wars to win.

I think that’s what separates terrorists from first world countries.

Curious. do you believe dropping those 2 was the right or wrong action. do you believe it was a war crime ? Or something in between ?

for the record I don’t say that flippantly. It’s an awful choice. Truman painstakingly concluded the alternative of extending the war and a ground invasion of Japan with subsequent 1,000,000 plus estimated US casualties made the decision for him.

The reporter did not include those slaughtered on 10-7 or the missile attacks in her proportionality equation. When the IDF spokesperson brought that up, she rejected it and limited to the particular strike.

How would Israel be in position to count the civilians killed or injured in a Hamas involved refugee camp? As for now they know it was a legitimate target, they obviously have Intel.

He is right. A nation attacked by another has no obligation to sacrifice a million lives. Any posters here whose parents were on the military today might not be here if those bombs has not been dropped.

It's almost like a lot of people here just want Israel to sit back and take whatever Hamas does to them. They only want Hamas out "if no innocent lives are lost" in the process. If it was their family that was kidnapped, raped or murdered they wouldn't feel the same way, but since it's Jewish people they seem to not care.

What do you think the MSM would do if this happened to a Black student instead of a Jewish student?

A nation attacked also has no obligation to kill 200,000 civilians. Any attack even approaching that level of devestation would almost certainly start another world war. We dropped the bombs to END a world war. I know you’re understandably emotional about this (what Hamas wants) but he’s absolutely wrong.

It’s been that way for Jews for millennia. Anti-semitism rarely takes the form of pure expressions of hatred. It is always found in popular belief systems that time reveals to be false. That is how those who hate Jews at their core co-opt others. Others think that there are reasonable arguments. Like this one. Where they accept whatever Hamas says at face value. And, yes, you are right. They are appalled by Israel dropping bombs that kill civilians even though Hamas operates underground where the bombs were dropped. The only other option is to send in ground troops at feet cost to Israel and to Gazans. Because to get there, Israel’s military would have to go through densely populated areas. It is a no win scenario created by Hamas. The end result is that Israel would be forced to live with these terrorists until the next atrocity. No Nation would be asked to put up with that. And, Israel told people in these areas to leave. They didn’t. All we heard is that they can’t leave? Why not? Hundreds of thousands did. But we hear it. “o am not against Jews. I am against what the Israeli government does?” How many examples can they post to of any reasonable peace participation by the Palestinians? 1948- They didn’t want those borders because they invaded Israel the day after the creation of the state and took land. 1967- Moshe Dyan offers all land won in the war back in exchange of peace and it is rejected. Carter Asminiatration- Egypt accepts Sinai but refuses to accept Gaza back. 1999- Camp David. After extensive negotiations, a peace agreement for a 2 state solution is negotiated by the Palestinians, Israel and US. Arafat refuses to sign it because they will kill him. 2005- Gaza is unilaterally returned to Palestinans. All the time chanting, “from the river to the sea.” And “occupation” without defining it. Yet the focus is always in Israel’s “settlements”” — on land the Arabs repeatedly refuse to take back. After 1999, subsequent US administrations gave up because it is futile. Yet, it is always Israel’s fault. We see the posts here referring to “colonization.” “Apartheid.” All the words thrown out by Jew haters that are accepted in various forms that are refuted by history. And generally ignored.

Maybe listen to this and see if you maybe will change your view. What if it was your family in Israel?

Israel hasn’t killed 200,000 civilians. Israel dropped these bombs to take out legitimate military targets.

Yeah the nukes did though. That’s what we are discussing. That was directed at the guy clamoring for a huge show of force so the war can be “won.”

I think you may have missed the point. No one is saying that Israel( or anyone else for that matter ) should indiscriminately kill 200,000 civilians. Japan started a war. It was the aggressor. In an effort to end the aggression and save millions of lives we dropped the bombs. Hamas started the war.. they are the aggressor and have been for some time. Israel gave warning what was coming. Israel told civilians to clear out. Israel bombed a Hq of the enemy. The enemy, Hamas, placed civilians in the way. Hamas refuses to let them leave. It’s not Israel committing war crimes. It’s Israel using sound warfare to limit their troops casualties. It is Hamas committing the war crimes..

The largest killing of Jews since the Holocaust and the US is coming out against Islamophobia? Sounds about right...

By the way, there is food and fuel in Gaza. Hamas has it in its tunnels. I would support a humanitarian pause to allow Hamas to take that fuel out of their tunnels to run hospitals and to take out food to feed people. But I noticed that this hasn’t been suggested. What is asked if Israel is to allow Hamas to get more fuel from outside Gaza for its tunnel system and rockets and food. And regroup. That is what would happen if there was any kind of pause. Because that is Hamas’ tactic. That is why they operate out of civilian populations.
