I suspect that when Israel goes into Gaza- and maybe before— thst it will launch preemptive air strikes at Hezbollah and IRG positions in Lebanon and Syria. They aren’t going to sit back and wait for Hezbollah to launch major strikes. Hezbollah has already fired the first shots and the stated intentions are clear.

Definitely jumped the gun on that story. That’s the trouble with the 24-hour news cycle, trying to it now over making sure it’s right.

Always and never are slippery slopes. It depends on what Iran does. E.g.If they lob a missile at a us navy ship and damage or sink it, do you seriously think we would do nothing?

Save for being difficult to understand thanks to mumbling it was an okay speech, but I’m not sure it was the right tone for a speech that was nominally supposed to be about what was going on in the Middle East to be primarily about Ukraine.

I’ll also say that, to me, both the idea that we need to spend $100 billion in emergency foreign aid - and the contrast of wanting $60 billion for Ukraine and $14 billion for Israel - were a little off putting.

Israel isn’t (yet) fighting a modern military head on, nor are they pushing back a military invasion along an entrenched front line, nor is their economy completely devastated. So the $$$ needs aren’t necessarily the same.

We normally “provide” around $4 billion to Israel. So $14 billion, assuming it’s above and beyond, more than quadruples their military aid from the United States. Is that appropriate? No idea. My point is merely that these are not apples to apples situations.

Yeah I'm sure it was sweet music to Netanyahu's ears. Everyone else, not so much.

Completely understand the differences, but I wouldn’t have juxtaposed the two asks next to one another, and the $60 billion number is playing into the fears of the people who think Ukraine is a bottomless pit for us to keep dumping money into.

And while I’m generally supportive of Ukraine aid, the $60 billion number is a bit shocking when you look at what the US military itself could buy with that amount of money. The latest aid Ukraine really needs from us is enough to buy five new Ford-class carriers?

Im utterly tired of you changing peoples arguments to straw men constantly. Are you unable to follow debate points or unwilling? Succinctly, are you ignorant or disingenuous?

Biden already did his wonderful speech showing solidarity with Israel. Biden took this opportunity to lay out an argument to support two democratic countries battling extremists that want to topple their governments knowing there is always a dissenting voice yelling about the money it costs to support freedom. Ukraine wont be over fast so keeping it front of mind to avoid a weary public (which Putin wants) is a great move.

Most of you guys expect Biden to simply drool on TV so an "ok speech" means you were actually impressed.

Fair enough, of course Israel enjoys the benefit of the U.S. just sending OUR carriers over there. Two of them.

We repositioned Troops into Europe as well. But I think the “show of force” from the U.S. is greater in this Israel conflict already. Ukraine has always been more about putting them on equal footing (supply wise) with anything the Russians throw at them. If it’s a “black hole” of spending it’s because (1) the military aid has worked to allow Ukraine to defend itself, and (2) the Russians have no regard for human life and just keep throwing bodies at this stalemate. On the other hand, Israel is already the superior force in the region even if we didn’t send them 1 additional dollar.

I thought the emergency foreign aid number was $100 million, not billion.

Just more fleecing of the Americans.
If the country has all this money sitting around, then our representatives should be fighting to lower our taxes and let us keep it and spend it here.
U.S. can 'certainly' afford military support to both Israel and Ukraine, Janet Yellen says

Someone needs to show her our debt.
