I am also looking forward to better hoops ahead. Golden clearly can coach offense. Defense remains to be seen, as does recruiting.
I got worn out defending Nembhard on here when so many people would evaluate his performance based on how well he shot the ball and blame AN for our slow play when I thought it was actually good strategy given how poor some of our players were with ball security whenever they did try to play with pace - I was so worn out my post count dwindled to "rarely" the last couple of years after he left. . AN has improved his shooting this season (not so much his first season at Gonzaga), but his strength is still as a consummate "straw that stirs the drink" point guard. It's why every lineup at UF played better with AN on the floor (a fact that many posters on here seemed to give no importance ), and it's why Few seldom takes AN out of games. (I've recorded and watched pretty much every Gonzaga game over the last 2 years.) I would LOVE to have had a player with Nembhard's post entry passing skills playing with Castleton and his offensive post up capabilities the last couple of seasons. And, Few says Nembhard is the best pick and roll decision maker that's ever played for him and that AN is the reason he sleeps well at nights. Now that Appleby is done, I feel free to say that it's laughable to think back to the stories that Appleby frequently outplayed Nembhard in practice (unless Appleby is some kind of practice player savant who just loses his bearings at times during the real games).
it's quite unfair to compare a 4th year senior Nembhard surrounded by the #1 overall draft pick, a 1st round 7-footer and maybe more future NBA players with the freshman and sophomore Nembhard that played here. He's on the best team in college basketball. He was a 5 star that declared early - of course he's improved. For all the posters still negative on White - he's gone! Find a new hobby, or get a life of some kind. It's beyond old and pathetic.
who were the 3? I don't know how you can compare the talent he has around him now with the talent he had at UF. Plus a freshmen/sophomore who declared a year early vs a senior. It's apples and oranges.
I ll remember he did get us to the dance did something only 12 teams did, only 12. Did better than All SEC teams in the dance but Kentucky. Did not like plenty but you act like he never got to dance, never got to Elite 8. I saw plenty of players get better under him. Now I will be thankful for somethings, not for all things. But won't waste time crying about it,and hope we take off under Golden.
I looked up his stats. His 3 point percentage is up quite a bit, now at 38%, versus past years. That wasn’t the case earlier this season, so he must have shot very well during conference play. My bad for posting without looking up his updated stats since checking them earlier this year. He’s still half a step slow on defense, but as long as he keeps hitting open jumpers, I think he can play in the NBA.
min the 2019-20 season he started along Tre Mann, Scottie Lewis and Keyonte Johnson. He also had blacksheer,and Locke. Of those 5 Mann and Lewis would be the 2nd and 3rd highest rated recruit Gonzaga has ever signed. Only behind Chet. Obviously I agree he’s grown considerably as a player. But White actually had him regressing.

Scottie Lewis - G League KJ - never played a game in the NBA Tre Mann - if it wasn't for a growth spurt he probably wouldn't be in the league either - and his PER is well below the league average Blackshear? Bust Locke? Did little besides shoot 3s and was inconsistent at that Now compare that to a once in a generation talent in Holmgren and the other studs at Gonzaga - plus comparing a freshman/sophomore to a senior? Your comparison and rationale are suspect at best
Yeah, in the coach Golden thread, someone suggested that the MW detractors were the ones with factual critique, while the MW supporters glossed over certain facts. Obviously, this runs contrary to that narrative.
a 7’2” center that can run, shoot threes and rebound, PF Timme strong, great shooter either 6’9” or 6’8”, plays tough defense and protects the rim, both these guys have good handles. That my friend I’d great talent. CC is a decent shooter in 10-12’ and around the basket when he is mad and determined. Great blocker, decent rebounder. As for defensive skills, guys drove around him and scored at will against Xavier. Pathetic to me,but they tell him not to foul. Half the time our players switch off and pg’s have to try and stop bigs over and over, what the heck. Reeves is the only person shooting threes that can regularly hit some each game. The rest of the players are a hit and Miss, as we saw Sunday, more missing than hitting. So, yes, TALENT does matter!
