You know exactly the one I'm talking about. The ugly one. The one with the orange and blue inside the 3 point line. Or am I misremembering from my youth?
Wow this wasn't as far back as I thought it was. David Lee, Matt Bonner, Roberson, Udonis Haslem, Matt Walsh played on that court
I hated it because it sorta looked like an orange and blue version of "The U" painted at two ends of our floor. Once my brain saw that I could never unsee it.
I miss you more sloped, closer-to-the-court, bandless, student section bleachers! Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
One of my colleagues was a collegiate hockey player (goalie at Wisconsin so very high level) and the first college basketball game he ever saw was when Peep drained the three in Jarvis Williams' face to beat Georgia. I took him to the game. For some reason my wife couldn't make the game. I think that she was in law school at the time as a much older student leaving her engineering career. He immediately became a college basketball fan. He left UF to teach at Union College and got to play a lot of hockey up there. Not much of a chance of that in Gainesville. I should email him to see if he still does. Like basketball it is a young man's game and hard on the body even for goalies.
Put the Pell Circle Logo in place of that stupid star thing and that court is perfection. No silly Gator head, no Speed F font, no exacto knife advertisements…. Ah the good old days, mostly before I was born….
I was a freshman in 1969 living in Murphee G. Played pickup games and intramurals all the time at the old Florida gym near the dorms! Still have calcium deposits from turning my ankle so many times wearing those low Keds!
