Hated their program since the ‘96 Fiesta Bowl. Even more now with a d***head Husker neighbor. Put me down as one of those thrilled with the demise of their program.
They fired coaches with winning records each year thinking that Nebraska was a destination job. Look at Bo’s record prior to firing. Not attracting kids to Nebraska in today’s NIL game unless ponying up $1 million dollar NILs.
Solich and Pelini both did a solid job there. Not Osborne good but who could?? I find their drop, particularly in that division, to be quite incredible. It isn’t like they can’t be OSU but otherwise are competitive. They can’t beat the bottom half of the Big 10.
They need a solid program builder hire here. Great fanbase (besides your neighbor) and seems to have decent pockets. I think they will be fine.
Their success was built on recruiting kids from points south. That 1996 team had nearly 20f them, going to the big10 dried that portal up. Was a bad move for them from which they might not ever truly recover.
Most rational and informed post in this thread. Amazing how butthurt some still are over a single game played 26 years ago.
You are now on a topic that is like a bad toothache. Why is OSU, Clemson, Bama, UGA good? Because they pillage Florida for recruits. Just like Nebraska did. When UF gets the lions share of top 100 Florida recruits, you will see the rings brother!
There have been plenty of other factors posters have cited as reasons for not liking that program. Also, they have always had deep pockets and it hasn't worked out for them in several years. And I was being a smartass... They are in a tough spot although I imagine as someone else said they should at least be Oklahoma state level given their locations.
Doesn't answer my question, but yeah I'm fully aware of how fellow Gator fans feel about their program. There are many that feel the same way about us during the Meyer years. College football is healthier and stronger when it's traditional programs are competitive and in the conversation; I hope they get it together.
Nebraska ran as dirty and rogue a program in the 90s and yet suffered NO consequences. In fact they won a 3rd title a couple years after Osbourne chose to play Phillips and other known violent offenders in their title game against us. Osborne might have suffered some snickers from some but overall "Dr. Tom" and the whole self righteous Nebraska program carried on unscathed. "Butthurt?" OK. Whatever you want to call it but it wasn't over one game. Some Gator fans are "butthurt" at the uneven handling as well as reputations certain programs have been privy to while Florida suffered a heavy handed probation followed by uneven media coverage of arrests and discipline issues under Meyer. Georgia at that same time had more arrests than florida yet florida was branded the rogue program. Now we have "Kirby's law" in Georgia legislature yet all the talk about rogue behavior from football players and programs like LSU recieve very little attention. I don't "hate" Nebraska at all personally but I see why some do. I do resent their program history the same way I do Miami's tainted titles and Fsu's 2013 title as well.
Lol Dude, I don't need history lesson, I've been around a long time, and have heard it all. And I don't see any Gator fans clamoring to give back our two national titles under Meyer. But judging by your reaction, yes, I'm standing by my original comment. Good day sir.
