Who in the world is trying to control this? Noting a paradox isn't the same as legislating it out of existence. Right or wrong, social justice or not, these girls will continue to make money until the next flavor of the month comes along. I think some of y'all are as addicted to being pissed off as the intersectionalists you can't stand. It will be interesting to see how coaches navigate this because, just as hot blondes will always be more enticing to more people and benefit as such, the actual talent on women's teams will probably, at least in some instances, grow resentful of teammates making a lot of money for essentially being THOTs of the month, so to speak.
Not a bad take. I prefer this: There was this thing called the "NCAA" that was essentially a volcano with a plug of unnatural dome material keeping it in place, making it look "normal". NIL is the plug getting jostled enough to prevent the magna from being contained. And now we have a result of an unplanned, but logical, effect of removing the obstacle.
I didn't like the idea of NIL from the get go because I thought it would become toxic in the locker room as tensions between the haves and the have-nots begin to mount. Where will this eventually lead? Possibly the only solution will be that all the athletes get paid. Then the non-athlete students are going to want their piece of the pie! I can see it getting very ugly down the road.
I don’t really buy this as they have been getting paid in some sort all along. The stars have always had their cars, houses, and cash. It’s no different than an nfl qb getting 50 mil and others getting league minimum. Sure there’s jealousy and hierarchy but it’s nothing new.
The sample size in this thread is entirely too small to have any scientific credibility. So please increase the amount of study subjects.
women’s sports is a social creation, there were banners all across UF campus this year saying “50 years of Gator womens athletics” because we up and created it 50 years ago. not only the hotness but the gender grenade is also exploding on women’s sports as it traditionally existed for 50 years. the only way I would personally watch the WNBA is if they have a whole team of trans women who dunk on everyone, throw blatant elbows and call themselves “nWo”
Buying goods because the athlete endorses them is not the only aspect here and I don't think it's the best model for NIL to follow. Maybe it would work best making it about corporations supporting athletes so they aren't required to get part time jobs while they earn their degree; in turn fans support the corporations out of gratitude for what they do for the studs that they love. In team sports the entire team gets supported not just the stars, although stars will always be remunerated higher.
Olivia Dunne is my favorite. Perfect combination of athletic, sexy, and girl next door semi-innocent looking beauty. She should be getting snatched up by some high-level Hollywood star, athlete or music industry person any minute now. Already in a thong, on a boat, in Italy and getting paid for it for the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition and she's not a dude-chick or beefy babe. (Not that that's bad)! Everybody needs to celebrate their 15 minutes of fame. If she shows up at the LSU/Florida game people will be suddenly be getting hit by balls and striking out in unusually high numbers! Just saying. Go Gators.
If that wasn't a rhetorical question, I was referring to the article linked on the original post. But no, I don't think most people mind a little bit of eye candy.
Agree about her face. Not super attractive, seems to be merely somewhat above average.. Don't see the fascination.
Not getting it with the Cavinder Twins either. The hotness for me is not there. Why does anyone care about them?
