    Figured we need a distraction.

Thompson’s Mark Freeman named Coach of the Year by National High School Coaches Association - Shelby County Reporter

Amazing what he has done in a short amount of time. Went from a sub .500 program for years to one of the best in the country. Their freshman QB actually played in 8th grade last year on the way to winning the 7A state title. Keep an eye on him because he might be the top pick one day. They lost this year to Central Phenix City who is coached by none other than Patrick Nix, Bo Nix's dad, who also won several state titles at Pinson Valley before he got wooed to Central. That's taking into account the region Thompson plays in is regarded as the toughest in the country. I felt sorry for Chelsea a couple of years ago when they moved up to 7A and into that region only to get pummeled both years before moving back down to 6A. Mountain Brook was in that region until they too moved down to 6A and they have been a force in 6A ever since. Hope our Pelham Panthers never get big enough again to move up to 7A (Pelham at one time before they split into Helena was the largest school in Alabama).
