National Championship 2022 Game Thread: (3) TCU vs. (1) Georgia, Monday, 1-9-23 at 7:30pm on ESPN

For now, we need to concentrate on beating Vandy and Kentucky. UGA is way out of our league.

 

I understand your feelings and I respect your position. I am just not ready to give up on Bowl games.
After the upcoming season the playoffs expand to 12 teams and hopefully by then we will be participating. But I hope that of 129 FBS teams more than 12 will be allowed the opportunity to play in a post season game.
I enjoy bowl games for selfish reasons. But I think if it’s a burden on the players that’s a crying shame: It should be a reward.
Some of the bowls games I watched this season looked to me like the players were invested in their teams and having fun. Mississippi State vs Illinois was an example of two teams that most likely have not made the playoffs but played a darn good and entertaining game.

 

My attitude about bowl games has become:

1) If it is a playoff game, starters go as they need to and go all out to win.

2) Any other bowl game, non-returning starters that want to participate play up to a half as a reward and goodbye.
Third quarter (at least part of it) any seniors and maybe some walk-ons that you want to reward for their efforts.
The rest of the game, underclassmen that you are looking at to be real contributors next year going all out and seeing how they work together.

There's a decent chance they get so complacent playing that weak schedule they get burnt by a more battle-hardened SECW winner.

The playoffs were already suffering from folks sitting out for the draft. Now you have folks sitting out from entering the portal to better position themselves for the draft. Probably only affects the elite (or delusional) at their positions who have a chance of getting drafted.

UF’s bowl performance of late has been disgusting, for a variety of reasons. We all make fun of the turd eaters, but, well you know.

CBN has a long roe to how. I suggest getting some combines cuz no one is digging those hand tools. ymmv.

Why hasn’t Todd Monken gotten another HC job? I don’t remember him even being in the mix for any. It would seem he’s earned another shot. Who knows, maybe he’s good with being a $2mil OC on the best team, if so, can’t blame him.

 

One bright spot is that we no longer get mentioned when it comes to the worst blowout in a national championship game.
