Anyone else have this tee shirt back in 1984? The reference of course being that we gave Miami their only loss (28-3) that year. Robby's in the Oakes Mall sold tons these shirts. I might even still have one.
It's good that UF has actual national championships now so we don't have people running around with these UCF level slogans.
If you were around in 1984, you'd realize that our Gators WERE the best team in the nation. Nothing UCF'ish about us at ALL. Nearly 40 years later, I'm still apoplectic about it...
It was the 1983 season. The Miami v. Nebraska NC game was January 1, 1984. The shirt I bought hit the shelves in early 1984. We were the best team in 84. We should claim this national title. We would have boat train rolled BYU and Jim boy.
We were the consensus National Champs in 1984. If we were the Bams or UCF we would claim it! We were #1 according to SI, Sporting News & NY Times
What do you mean… they do claim it, doesn’t matter that they went 5-6. By golly they beat Auburn at years end… obviously they were the best team by the end of the year.
1984 was a program defining season. I feel after that season we were taken seriously for the very first time.
I was at UF at the time. Had a shirt that read Florida 28 National Champs 3. Was 1983. The only year and score I remember as first year at UF and first game.
