Does not surprise me. A good friend of mine that is very active in the NIL program with a Big Ten school said a WR recruit demanded 900k on signing day or he would bolt. They caved in and gave him the money.
Could be wrong about this, but just heard that Pickett, basically, the number one player in the state of Florida does not have us in his top five.
i hate that our record has been what it is because we’re stuck recruiting wise when it comes to OV’s….do our big visitor OV’s in June but if you don’t land their commitment then, you’re done since more accomplished teams can afford to host OV’s during the season (Napier rarely does that) or a week or two before signing day & up the bag. we have to take commitments early and hold on since it seems like we won’t be matching or exceeding offers bags wise
Saw this from another poster on another site. He provided link to back up we rank #4 too. All of this “we’re poor” is complete nonsense. From 2005-2022, we rank 4th of any school in total booster contributions at $763M, only behind Texas, TAMU, and Oregon. That puts us ahead of UGA, LSU, Auburn, FSU, Ohio State, Alabama, etc. The issue isn’t that we lack funds. The issue is that our athletic director has failed to correctly allocate his resources (i.e., convince boosters to put more towards NIL).
Not only that, they actively discouraged boosters from setting up NIL ventures at the outset which probably set viable ventures back a year or more. I have the letter in my email somewhere. The implementation of NIL, which should have looked like a freight train barrelling down the tracks right at us, was managed very poorly by UF when it could have possibly been a strength since Florida was the second State in the nation after CA to pass a law about it.
The initial law passed in FL was very restrictive. The states that passed laws later in the process gave their schools much more leeway. Initially the FL schools were not even allowed to direct the athletes to NIL entities, nor have any involvement in setting up any type of collective.
Agreed, but they also didn't have to send out a letter to all the boosters warning them of dire consequences if any set up any kind of NIL venture.
100% correct. The poster from the other board is spot on too. As we’ve learned, NIL is not everything, as some kids are looking more at development, and if we are winning, but the money sure helps
Or is it that the money went to firing coaches with crazy contracts, hiring new coaches just to fire them and repeat?
Solid points for sure by you, but at some point we have to go all in as a university. I love the overall mindset of being well-rounded. I go to gymnastics, volleyball, basketball and baseball and support every other sport, but at some point there needs to be somewhat more of a focus on football and winning. I think two can exist at the same time in that a well-rounded university, in all aspects with an excellent football program at the same time. Even if we would have won seven or eight games the last couple of years it would’ve been more understandable, but losing seasons should never occur at the University of Florida in football. 7-5, 8-4, ok but not sub 500.
I disagree- every player is maximizing NIL. Kids may state development or going home or winning as reasons but those are almost all secondary. Just like NFL and 99.9% of all pro sports free agents sign for the most money vs any other reason. They all may give other reasons, but it is like super duper double rare for any player to leave more money on the table from another teams offer.
Yep, not many Brady’s in this world. Only one I can think of that took less money so his team could buy the best players to surround him with.
I’ll give you examples… Etienne and Princely said otherwise. Development and winning. Princely could have went to the NFL but chose a school that was winning and development. Two in the know that many of us listen to said the same thing. We respectfully disagree as winning does matter, and so does development for the NFL. Look at Jeremiah Smith could’ve had more money with the schools other than Ohio State such as Florida. He looked at what Ohio State is doing in the bowl game they are playing in. We are not even in a bowl game. Ohio State is sending kids to the NFL at his position left and right we are not. he even said this…
I disagree with the notion that Ohio State is developing WRs differently than other schools. They are recruiting better players and playing weaker schedules so their receivers look better. Marvin Harrison played one game against an SEC school and didn’t finish. Imagine if he had to play 7 more games against SEC schools. Hell, he’s scared to play against Mizzou. Cooper Cupp was 1AA Tyreek Hill - W Alabama
you sound as though you saying MHJ is soft and scared. Man had 105 yards vs UGA before getting illegally hit. He was giving them the business And i dont think he’s “scared” of Missouri; he just sitting out to not risk injury. He a top 5 pick, why risk it? I’m quite certain he not scared to face Missouri
