You’re absolutely correct and I think under Meyer we were playing that game but I think it got a bit shunned byour administration. he went somewhere where he could play by the rules.
Rankings based on number of recruits in class that value 27 signed versus 22 signees are skewed toward numbers in class. Average star ranking is a better way of ranking classes. As QBs more heavily dictate future success in college, signing the top QB likely more influential to ranking than other roles. All development related after signing kids. Billy has a very young team without many seniors. Jury still out on whether he can develop kids. Currently looks like S&C is a real weakness compared to other SEC programs. Getting pushed around and losing 4th quarter with regularity. Is that because of youth or S&C program?
How about articles such as these? Are they rival fans stirring up dirt, or is there, like, enough smoke to suggest that this scenario looks at least possible if not likely, given what we’ve seen to date? https://atozsports.com/nashville/na... recruiting analyst,as the Gators' head coach.
A tumble from #3 to #16, in a matter of days, seven of eight flips on the defense side, is something I never thought I’d see.
This happened 40 years ago. It’s time for the administration to wake up from its decades long slumber and realize the NCAA hammer broke into microscopic pieces and has been replaced by a tickle feather.
When have we ever lost 5 in a row to end the season and fired coaches as a result? I think thats a toucgh thing to swallow. What i want to see is Napier show urgency and swing for the fences. Get as many transfers as he can and then figure the roster out.
Now you have, and we get that 2024 schedule to play next season... I think if we get the right position coaches we can still win 8 or more games... 7 of those games are AT HOME... In The Swamp. And, yes, we need more help from the portal for sure. We have to replace surefire SEC quality portal players with the ones we have that have not worked out. We need proven portal players.
I agree but also disagree on the volume vs player rating stat. Reason being is a large percent of players recruited - whether 3, 4, or 5 stars don’t work out. (History does show that top 30 players have a much higher % of making NFL rosters than any other players but neither here nor there). the more bites at the Apple, ie more players in your class, the wider your margin for error. for example, in Napiers first 3 years, we have signed (excluding transfer portal) 61 players - which includes Juco. If you take those out, it drops to 58 but I’ll use 61. During that same time, Georgia has signed 84 (no Jucos). The difference of 23 players is basically an another entire recruiting class, not even taking into account player quality. That is a huge advantage as it gives them many more players to be busts of work out. I think at this time, for Florida, of the 61 players recruited, 12 have already transferred, so basically 20% of 61 are gone leaving us with 49. If 20% of Georgia’s signees have also transferred or left for any reason, that leaves them with 67. Now, Napiers 1st class was a transition class and those have higher attrition rates historically and Georgia didn’t have a transition class. However, it also includes a bump class for Florida which usually is large- like 28-30, but Florida was at 22. the portal certainly changes strategy on who you sign and how many. But Napier himself in his introductory press conference stated he should be signing 25 man classes and…this year we obviously wanted a larger class but didn’t get one due to attrition, not by choice. anyway, quality does definitely matter. But quantity - due to attrition and not knowing who will play well- is also a big deal and that is why the rankings take both into account. (For most of the sites that rank teams, they actually give less weight and rating to each individual player more kids join the class so there is actually diminishing returns once you have like 20 signees).
Okay... Jerrae "Tank" Hawkins just became the fastest player on our team. Read this article. Florida has coveted speed at wide receiver under Napier's leadership and none represent that quality better than Hawkins, who has a 4.25-second 40-yard dash and 6.69-second 60-meter, 10.37-second 100-meter and 21.48-second 200-meter dashes to his name. He averaged 18.1 yards per catch across 97 receptions for 1,751 yards and 20 touchdowns in two varsity seasons at Wheeling Park High School, before transferring to IMG Academy for his senior campaign. With the Ascenders, Hawkins averaged 18.6 yards per catch with 26 receptions for 483 yards and four scores. Hawkins will need to add good weight to his frame to withstand the physicality of the SEC, but UF will want to balance his strength and conditioning approach in order to maintain his athleticism. https://www.si.com/college/florida/...rs-recruiting-jerrae-hawkins-signing-day-2024
He was doing well... did the NIL drop the ball? You know all you have to do is show up with a Duffle-bag full of ca$h and these kids will flip right then and there at the very last minute.
Some here just want to ignore the obvious, plenty of evidence in the last two years be it in game decisions, recruiting or staff changes. Just be patient. We are in it for the long haul because SS inked a 7 year deal…. Just hope it works out.
Seems like the other top programs are making it work for them. They aren’t losing top recruits who were solid for months in the 11th hour.
LJ McCray called up the UF coaches on ESD and said Auburn had increased their NIL $150,000 per year higher than UF’s offer. Caused a kid that was a UF commit to delay signing a few hours. This is the new recruiting strategy to get kids to visit late and offer a ton of money or approach NIL agents with big dollars to get starters on other teams to enter the portal
