I mean, he could have said just about anything else. I'll throw out some ideas:

"We did okay in some areas. Need to keep working hard and see more improvement before I can feel comfortable competing in this league."
"I saw some good things out there and some not so good things. It's a scrimmage anyway. Doesn't mean a whole lot. We just want to keep improving."
"It's going to be a long season if we keep having those miscues on D."
"I like what I saw in some areas, but we still have a long way to go."

That's what you say about a team coming off 5 wins. That is all.

Yep Saban was always full of smiles and optimism....the guy would win by 50 and look like someone pissed in his cereal.

He doesn't need to mimic Saban to satisfy me, but at the same time, for all the people saying Napier doesn't want to risk hurting feelings with social media, etc.. never seemed to be a problem for Saban or Harbaugh.

Could not agree more. Lets see, Season 1 - Napier - Well Mullen left 3 coachroaches in the cuboard and they done ate the last grain of rice.
Season 2 - Napier - Remember what I said about the cuboard last year? Ditto year 2

If ya'll ain't noticed, Napier is, IMO, easily the classiest head coaching act in the SEC. Yeah yeah, who gives a shyatt about class, ......well. - I do.

Me, - after the defects from early signing day last cycle, I would have been looking for one of Putins favorite balconies. I think coach has done a REMARKABLE salvage job from that low point. Remember when the Gator podcasters were building the Gallows about that time?

I have not seen or sensed one second of "woe is me", dispair, fear, or any of that. The locker room is tight, I MEAN TIGHT, at least from an outside observers point of view. Look, the metal hits the meat in 8 days. We shall see, but I go into 8/31 feeling like we have a better than decent chance. Beat da U, Sanford, and suddenly, UF is halfway to the Vegas win total. Some are even painting a real pretty picture about going into UGA unbeaten or with 1 loss. I prefer unbeaten myself.

Hey, I don't know, if I did I would be stackin the Jack on the bettin table.

I just know I think we have a chance to make a nice run early, and surprise one or two late.

    Go GATORS!

What pisses me off about that last coaching staff is the way their players gave up on the Gators' football team and football program, and it was so pervasive in the number of players that It's almost like they may have sabotaged Napier and the Gator brand on their way out the door. I mentioned this in the Anzonlone thread, and still believe that to be a high possibility.

Napier is very good at finding players that fit his character and player profile want's and needs. His evaluations are just now catching the attention of several coaches that are following Napier's evals closely, as evidenced by how soon other coaches offer Napier's unknown underappreciated players... players that have not made any list or rating superlative publications in the High school ranks.

He is still finding his way through the assistant coaching staff and I assume that he will always be upgrading there, much like he does with his players. That's a plus that past coaches like Mullen never understood.

He seems to know the big picture, but some early setbacks made his goal of getting the Gators back to dominance in the college football world delayed by the massive departures of talent that had been leftover from the past coaching staff.

Now that he's got the team in a state of stability, he can focus on details and accelerating the Gators' football program back to what we expect from the ONLY flagship university in the state of Florida.

He and his miserable staff. Will never forget his spoiled mediocre brat staff all but throwing the ucf game, Greg Knox on the sidelines, pouting, arms crossed, uninvolved.

I believe Mullen had a mediocre coaching tree. Guys like that would rather stick with their guys than experiment. Saban OTOH, would have fired Havesy and Grantham, then hired winners, albeit, Saban would not have hired either to begin with. I realize Grantham was with Saban years ago but only as a DL coach.

Totally agree on Napier. He’s a class act and I really hope he’s our HC for a long time. Give him enough time he’ll deliver. If we don’t we’re idiots

Demands are high inside the building. This team lacks confidence and Napier is wired optimistic. He’s going to sunshine pump on the podium, but everyone knows what the expectations are. I’ve watched every presser with him. He’s shaded optimistic, but he is pretty balanced and level headed in his evaluations of the team’s performance in practice.

I’d rather have a respectful coach that shows class. There are classy winners too.

In the summer of 1979, new UF coach Charley Pell went on the Gator tour. Lots of enthusiasm over the new coach considering his pedigree and success at Clemson. Also his ability to recruit like no other.

He actually opened the speech I was at with "I'm no miracle worker." Then he went on to tell the truth over the lack of a QB, depth, size, strength, speed and on we go. We went 0-10-1. The next year he talked about "talented young rascals" and pre season it appeared we would have success.

Game 1 vs a ranked Cal team with a future NFL QB and West Coast Conf player Rich Campbell, the Mighty Gators blew them out. Went on to win bowl game and finish 8-4 with that close loss to eventual NC georgia (run Lindsey).

Bottom Line- I wish he'd quit blowing smoke and tell us, e.g. "We are a work in progress on the right side of the o-line. Our DBs are doing great. We need to catch the pickoffs"

We are a work in progress in several position groups and we don’t need Napier to tell us that. If Napier gets eight wins, he should get very serious consideration for coach of the year. If that’s true, how many wins do we get if he’s the 20th best coach this year.

Well, let's just say that the level of candor one uses in public relations is directly proportional to the level of success one achieves...
