Do you enjoy the current product that Billy is putting out there? If he is gone, then get rid of him now and let someone else try to build momentum for the next guy. Because Napier hasn’t shown ANY ability or desire to change course and isn’t going to deviate from his process. If we beat FSU at the end of the year, it is a building block for the next season. Look at Zook’s last year. The difference is Napier hasn’t shown any reason that he should stay on coaching the team like Zook did.
I'd think there is probably an actuarial chart produced that shows the keep/cut point. Most likely with a dramatic inflection point since the fan spend on football is mostly an emotional decision. I also have no idea what I'm talking about.
I just don't see how UF would wait that long should the continued abysmal play continue Rick. Gator Nation loves their football, but for average income Joes llike me, that have to plan and save to go to games, well they ain't coming. I'm going to N Florida to catch some Red Snapper and Grouper with Wanne and the P-Cola boys!!. I'm really skeptical about what the team does in Starkville. Noon game, Cow bells ringing, low morale, (Will Trey be ready?) I don't know, I have seen a few nightmares there and with good teams. btw Toledo is 3 - 0, folks may want to think twice about dissing the Rockets. And of course State throws it around, no UF pass rush and with the secondary playing like it has been, well, I ain't layin no money on that trap game.
Can we? He has sucked all the energy out of this program. Do you let him continue to do that or let his assistants have a shot at generating some positive momentum. The only way the offense/defense will change is if Billy is gone, as he is the common denominator in this mess.
Exactly. Nothing is going to happen until Fuchs is gone. That could be months. It could be into next year in which case we are totally screwed. Posters posting about BOT meetings, Stricklin is gone, Billy is gone etc. have no clue what they are talking about.
Early bird gets the worm. Hopefully, they have some candidates in mind. I just don't see any benefit in keeping him other than the buyout. He's players won't listen to him now because they know he's a dmw. Asst coaches probably lining up prospects for their new gig.
I suggest BN follow the George Constansa train of thought. Do the exact opposite of what you normally do. Can't get any worse?
If he is gone now, it gives an interim coach time to modify schemes to better fit the players we have. I don’t see Napier making any scheme changes. I see nothing about him that screams flexible. Look no further than the QB situation last game.
You are right, I'm being too emotional about this and we should be smart about it. However it sounds like we have a process to go through, and I for one am done with "process".
We are worse than we were when he took over, there's evidence to suggest that his continued coaching will be a detriment. Besides, do you want "Fire Napier" chants at the rest of the home games and on national TV? Maybe Billy will agree to reduce his buyout in exchange or us putting him out of his misery and not ending his UF coaching career as the statistical worst Gator FB coach ever (all but guaranteed if he isn't fired mid-season). A man can dream...
There are more aspects to this situation than I will ever know, particularly how best to handle the specter of NCAA sanctions and how that might impact his buyout. But the stubborn, stolid, shockingly unimaginative man who just limped through yet another adventure in futility, has got to go the moment the stars align and the skids are properly greased. I endured the latest claptrap through Edgar's well-aimed body blow of a question, plus a bit of BN's typically lame-assed response. Unfortunately, Billy is probably a long way from being finished squandering UF's money. But he's absolutely finished wasting any more of my time. I'll watch the games and pull for my team out of loyalty and habit, but I could not be more out on Billy staying an instant longer than is absolutely necessary. Enough already.
