Shows clear leadership/direction and assures players and recruits that we have a plan. We all know we are going after Lane. Guys need to know the team is in good hands. Keeping a dead man walking around as long as possible doesn’t instill any confidence at a time when the leadership is in question. It’s really that black and white.
Yes. But the question stands alone without the first part, almost just as compelligly: Why is he still AD????
With the inability of Billy to light ANY fire under this team and coach with ANY sense of urgency, we can lose every game anyway. Is it better to let him flounder, or see if one of his assistants can light a fire under this team.
If I may... Firing him now tells the team we gave up on Billy, not them. Waiting 2 months is nothing but disingenuous. Cut bait. Re-set the line. Get on with life. Forward. Ever forward. Our players deserve better. They deserve to be treated honestly.
It felt in this presser that BN was leaning on the players not executing as much as he ever has. While I do agree after watching film that we are blowing coverages and getting beat up front on both sides of the line.... at some point if we are not able to execute the things BN wants, he has to change something. I understand he strongly believes is O works when executed, but you have to bend your scheme and playcalling to your strengths. Remember when we sucked at run blocking with Mullen, and he decided to add the quick out pass to receivers to act as an extension of the run? It blows my mind we have not added wrinkles, or gotten creative. BN offense works if all 11 guys win their assignment.... but what offense doesnt?
Maintaining the status quo is going to kill this season even deader than it already is. By installing an interim coach, there is the opportunity to build some excitement in the program.
Mind boggling to say the least. Like it's some grade school team where everyone has to play at least 1 quarter.
There's no building excitement in anything until the new guy is named, which won't be for a while no matter what.
Somebody go tell Lane that we're gonna hire Urban this week, and that we want him to gear all his efforts to have this team righted for when Ole Miss comes to town in what 7-8 weeks... The thought of that alone should convince Lane where he needs to be. im kinda over the idea of having to wait to end of the year to make an impactful coaching decision. thats old world college football... Nobody here can tell me that hiring Urban on a temporary, performance based deal for the remainder of 2024 wouldn't drastically make a huge impact on the current season (still have 9 games with tons of top teams to take down), while also showing the world why this job is attractive again Meyer/Strong '24
Part of me says there are people smarter than us making these decisions that will be best for the program. Than the other part of me says these are the same people that don't have that great a track record on such. Boosters and AD alike.
Because our elite S&C has lead to almost 20 wounded? I guess he's saying we ain't gonna bring all of them to an away game.
How about we won't tolerate a coach embarrassing the program and the fans? Thats my black and white. Have some damn standards of conduct, lord knows people around here preach it all the time.
There's no one smarter making decisions anywhere in our society these days... Did you watch the debate? As a collective fanbase have to force outcomes and hold decision makers accountable to fix mistakes correctly or they'll continue to linger too long
