“Grubb called the plays for the Huskies during their 25-3 run over the past two years, which culminated with a loss to Michigan in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. That's the key element here. His role as offensive coordinator role wasn't just an inflated title for the sake of increasing his pay grade, like we often see in college football.” huh.. Alabama's Kalen DeBoer faces play-calling dilemma after Ryan Grubb takes Seahawks offensive coordinator job “Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz finally relinquished play-calling duties for the 2023 season — his fourth on the job — and the results were great. The Tigers finished 11-2 with a Cotton Bowl victory over Ohio State as they jumped from 81st nationally in total offense to 28th with Kirby Moore as offensive coordinator.” "I wasn't embracing my role as the head coach," Drinkwitz said before the Cotton Bowl. "I was trying to hold on to my ego of being the play caller. And I needed to step back and say, the job as a head coach is to build this team, empower other people to do their jobs, and really build connections amongst our players from player-to player, coach-to player, and from our team to our university and community."
We got room for an OC now! WTh https://247sports.com/college/flori...pier-boston-college-coaching-staff-227043177/
I don't disagree with you at all. I think most of us can see the offense and defense needs help. One of the most infuriating issues, the Gators offense needed to be in hurry-up mode. Instead, the offense is plodding down the field chewing up six or seven minutes of valuable playclock rather than a quick strike and score. It likely will be that he will live or die by hiring or not hiring an OC. And I'd like to hope BN could prove me wrong--his ego prevents going after an OC!
I'm afraid this has to be the turnaround of the rebuild if it is happening! Otherwise, recruiting will suffer! I am a BN supporter, but these grades are not far off, are they? Florida Football: 12 grades for Florida football program Billy Napier
I like his offense ok but playcalling has me scratching my head. Mostly it’s good and then he calls the stupid fake play at the worst time. I wouldn’t really call it a bogus buyout being it’s pretty standard nowadays for the top colleges to have big buyouts. No up-and-coming Coach is going to take a job without security. It’s just part of the risk
Is there a good time to call a failed trick play? It’s only the best time to call it when it actually works. When it fails, it’s pretty much always the worst time.
If you are going to call a trick play, at least play to your strengths. For example, Would you call a RB pass if the RB couldn't throw a lick? Billy calling a double reverse flea flicker when the Oline can't even block for 2 seconds was bound to fail .....and it did. Stuff like that is avoidable.
I agree you should probably be able to execute the fundamentals before trying to execute an extremely slow developing trick play. Just saying, you don’t ever really hear some say “well that was the best time to try it” when a trick play fails. When they don’t work, it’s always stupid. When they work, they’re always brilliant.
To be fair, that play has been broken down in pretty detailed fashion....and it would have worked in pretty big fashion if two players had not messed up. Max Brown drifting to his right IMO really screwed it up
My only problem besides them clustering it up was that it just wasnt necessary. It smelled of desperation and was a total momentum killer. This is where maybe I like Napiers scheme just fine but at times the playcalling is questionable at best.
Is BN gambling with his own future by not hiring an OC? Stoops claims he has been following this guy and considers him "a rising star!" (And this guy used to be at UF, so UF ought to know Hamden better than Stoops!) Is UK football now in a higher tier in the SEC than UF? Many pointed to Jeff Scott as the guy Billy might bring in this year as a real OC & play caller, but it didn’t happen because Billy doesn’t want one. Interestingly it appears Jeff Scott is going to sit out a second season of coaching and remain just an analyst at Clemson. He didn’t get all that much buyout $$$ from USF.
