Have to have the guys to develop. Not counting true FR, who has not played much but from their ranking and stature should we expect(hope) step up?

I think play calling and design matter just as much. From watching Ohio State it seems like great play designs make it so much easier for a QB to have open receivers.

Having 5* WRs (3 of them) and a 5* RB has more to do with that than any play call Chip Kelly makes.

Can't hurt, that's for sure. But SOS didn't have 5 wide 5 star receivers. Play design can get 3 stars open. I don't believe OSU's WRs were open because they were 5 star, unless it turns out 4 star and below cannot run routes or position in the open areas of zone coverage. I do understand that talent matters.

All the great quarterbacks in history did well in the red zone no matter who the hell was calling the plays. Bad quarterbacks are just bad, no matter who is calling the plays

I would damn sure rather Steve Spurrier be calling the plays, but I haven't seen Napier or or call the plays of the 96 gators either

Point being that we have a great QB. So, no need for a better OC/play caller?

A great play caller is not going to turn them into Anthony Hilliard and Green and although we have Good running backs, none of those are Fred Taylor. And it's a little bit early to think that DJ is going to be as good as wuerffel

I intended to respond to you the other day. I agree, some of the playcalling is predictable and boring. I would like to see us mix up offensive styles. There does not seem to be a hurry-up offense when it's needed. Clock management and timeouts are a problem. The QB is not getting the playcall soon enough, and timeouts get wasted, due to the play clock winding down. This happens far too often!

Dan designed plays to take advantage of defender tendencies and create openings in opposition secondaries. You could see an analysis of opponent film in play calls and design. Billy runs the same type plays each week and often has two pass routes in the same zone/area. Billy is not a Spurrier or offensive mastermind/guru. Just an average play caller. He can’t win SEC championships with current offense, as too many close games and offense does not average enough points scored each week. Will see if he is capable of change.

BN is nothing more than what would happen if you let Muschamp coach and be the offensive coordinator. While Muschamp certainly reigned in the offense he at least knew he wouldnt be effective on that side of the ball and brought in people who focused on what he knew he wasn't good at. Billy on the other hand is oblivious to what is easily observable and just cant accept that he is not good but BAD at the job of being an OC and head coach at the same time. When you are near last in the SEC in offense with a world class QB and solid group of players and are incapable of counting players, adapting as the game flows and unable to get a snap off under any situation without getting near to a delay of game penalty you are not the guy for the OC job.

Were we near last if you just count the games that DJ was the quarterback?

Perhaps someone should ask Napier, does playing complementary football also include the coaches calling better offensive plays that give our team the best chance of success?

There's no way that all those coaches don't watch the games afterwards and see that bad calls were made. And at the same time, they see DJ throw those two interceptions in the bowl game and that shit is real too

Our talent is not top 5, im pretty certain of that. Beating those teams with a clear talent advantage will always be tough.

I agree with you, but apparently BN is willing to bet his salary that he will be the playcaller despite what we think. BTW, he hired Sunseri over Muschamp, which reveals another less than brilliant move!
