It's the thread everyone's been waiting for! Last season I began posting Value pt scores (VPS) and I'll try to keep up with it this season. The VPS formula: pts + rbs + 2(chrg + asst + stls + blks) / FTmiss + 2(miss + fouls + to) ESPN does not give charge stats, but that's not a major impact on the scores. So you think Castleton & his 6 blocks is MVG right? Nope. Well, then it musta been Myreon Jones, who also scored 18. Nope. Castleton had five TOs & missed 6 FTs. Jones didn't shoot as efficiently as your MVG . . . Duruji. Player.....VPS vs. Elon Duruji......3.29 Jones.......2.46 Castleton..1.73 Fleming....1.56 Appleby....1.44 McKissic....1.30 Felder........0.70 Gatkek......0.50 Reeves......0.42 Tough night for Reeves, who didn't score in his first game as a Gator and Niels Lane, who had few stats, but all negative. Here's an interpretation of value pt scores. McKissic, Appleby, & Fleming were pretty good. Castleton, Jones, & Duruji were excellent. EXCELLENT............1.75+ VERY GOOD...........1.50-1.74 GOOD...................1.25-1.49 FAIR.....................1.00-1.24 POOR....................under 1.00
McKissic caused at least two turnovers that would not be scored as steals. If you force a double dribble isn't it almost as good as a steal? I know that it is not "live ball" and cannot result in a fast break, but many other steals don't result in fast breaks either. I have no idea how to incorporate this into your ratings, but it would help.
