I don't know how realistic that expectation is for 2023. The schedule is difficult and we're still lacking talent at a lot of positions, especially QB. Utah, Tennessee, LSU, Georgia, FSU... those games would be tough at full strength. We also have resurgent Kentucky and South Carolina to deal with, as well as having to go up against KJ Jefferson. 7-5 is probably our ceiling. I'd be happy with that. I think, more realistically, we're probably looking at 5-7, maybe 6-6.
As with almost every other season of UF football and basketball over the last decade I'd be satisfied with the team simply getting objectively better as the season progresses rather than worse. That's all I ask for but lately it seems a monumental task.
It’s fair to expect significant improvements from out defense. It can’t be worse. The offense was decent last year and could be similar productionwise but could also drop off a bit. It’s hard to be too optimistic but maybe we will win a game or two against a real team and get to 7 wins.
I believe the defensive backfield will be significantly better. More speed back there and better tackling. Devin Moore looked really good before he was hurt. Put him with Kamari and Jordan castell and I think we have something. I’m not crazy about Jayden hill at the gator position. Hopefully sharif can step in there.
In the realm of marshmallows, a quickie is quite apropos. In the realm of selecting a mate, try to abstain. Trust me.
I don't see how anyone can't be happy about the defense. The endless power whining and bellyaching about the scheme has been addressed. The improvement in talent is also obvious. The issue in 2023 will be the extreme youth across the 2-deep. There will be growing pains. The safety from Michigan was a big get. If CBN can get a player like that at edge, the defense will be balanced. Need to see what we have in fall for the offense. If the starting OL rotation is Barber, Leonard, Equakun, Mazzccua, Goodwin, George and Slaughter. I'll like the offense. If one or two of these guys are out, there'll be some growing pains on the OL causing some overall issues. So- yeah, PATIENCE!
Perfectly rational take. It is just that too many folks think all that matters is at least one more win than the last year...IF you want them to believe that there is progress. Otherwise...
I don't know, achilleas are tough, and I don't know if he's ready for full time PT or not. I don't remember how he played in the bowl game, but the OL didn't stand out.
Yep, I never heard anything about how serious his injury was. I was kinda assuming it wasn’t a total tear.
What if… Maybe there will be some benefits to not inserting an offensive or defense to fit last year’s personnel and have to totally change everything year to year. Install it, teach it, play it, adjust it, adjust players. If coach is the methodical loonie he has been described as, what’s wrong to say he stuck with the plays and general philosophy to put that in everyone’s mind? I had a mid season meltdown for full disclosure. What if instead of changing his plays to fit personnel, he determined we are gonna do this. We will see who fits, who don’t. Now he’s in year two of plays, players, learning the system, terminology, etc. Right or wrong, maybe he decided I want my LB to be this tall, this weight, this big, this fast, and so on. Maybe he called the plays he did to see who could execute his offense and didn’t deviate on purpose? Those who stayed are now in year two of said playbook. Those who didn’t fit are playing somewhere else. Maybe it was that simple and he told the staff, Strickland, boosters, etc. that was the plan but didn’t tell us or Kentucky. Why tell the world? We never get the story so we make up the parts to fit our emotions and fill in the blanks.
“Ladies and gentlemen, please keep calm. Yes, the rumors are true. All of you who delayed gratification for additional marshmallows will have to go without any. Georgia and Alabama have taken them all.”
Spurrier had Danny and others, Urban had Chris Leak and Tim. BN had Richardson but he was too young and made too many bad decisions.AR was erratic and failed to show up at crucial times. Billy had no choice but to play AR. In my opinion...it was all about him and not the team. Billy needs some time to right the wrongs of AR and Dan Mullen.
Generally agree with your point, but you’re being unnecessarily hard on AR. He was all Gator and is a good representative of UF. Did he leave it all on the field like Tim or Danny? No, but those two guys are clearly among the most special QBs to ever play the game anywhere. Chris Leak used to trot out of bounds or slide before reaching the 1st down marker too, and we complained about it at times, but never questioned his loyalty to UF. AR deserves the same respect.
Personally, I think your original post should have been left unedited by a moderator, so you would have to take the deserved crap that it would have generated. I can also surmise what your answer would have been if someone had offered you $25-$30M to leave UF after your Jr. year. Would that have made you "not a Gator?"
Guess we will find out in year two. If this theory holds up, then we should see improvement week over week. Don't need to see it in the W/L column year two but seeing a more functional team that is moving forward each week would be a welcomed sight.
