Yes, this is a big problem for people that think guns should be rights, there is really nothing you can do to prevent people from getting guns and using them. Everything you see is the cost of that. All this talk about mental health is just masturbation, IMO. Most people with mental issues dont have criminal records and are never diagnosed and adjudicated mentally incompetent (that would probably still be true even if we had a decent healthcare system), so there is really no pretext to do anything, nor would a background check do anything. Would be a lot easier to take guns from potentially dangerous people if gun ownership wasn't a hard right. But people insist on reading the 2nd Amendment that way, so here we are. If there are basically no barriers to gun ownership, there arent going to be barriers to using them on people either. That's how its going to work in this psychotic legal framework.

Certainly a valid part to this.

Well, I have traveled a bit in Europe and most Europeans I have met are simply amazed at the gun culture (or cowboy culture as I was once told) in the US, especially the laws allowing unlimited gun ownership, stand your ground laws, etc, etc, so I guess that falls under sociology.

It seems to me the further you go down the road of adding to what constitutes a "mentally ill" person that needs institutionalizing, the closer you come to violating that person's constitutional rights. We already have Baker Act laws. Further, I have no doubt that the implementation of such legislation would fall much harder on the bottom socio-economic groups.

Denying a person access to assault rifles or guns in general is far different than institutionalizing them.

So you wish to limit the freedoms of people with mental health challenges. :emoji_thinking: Just think about all the innocent and law abiding people whose freedoms you wish to extinguish. Am I doing this right?

This is sus info. So AR-15 production increased during a federal assault weapons ban? Interesting. And at a higher rate than it was before the ban? That doesn’t make any sense at all.

Well I don't wish it but by law and by weapons license you can't be nuts or have you never been turned down for a weapons license

I seems that some people wish to argue that we must protect guns from people with mental illness. o_O

If you’re implying we could do something to stop the next shooting, it’s been 10 months since Congress passed Biden’s much-heralded “gun safety” law, yet the shootings are becoming more frequent.

Unbelievable. The AR 15 used in this shorting MUST be actioned off under Kentucky law after a year..

This is an absolute perversion of justice.

Another vote in favor of doing absolutely nothing. As we all are painfully aware, it is a matter of time before the next event, and the one after that.

Well, I never said anything like do absolutely nothing. I just don't think another Biden "gun safety" bill is the answer. We tried that 10 months ago and the shootings are increasing in frequency. Who's to say a 2nd bill wouldn't further escalate the frequency of the mass shootings? I know they do tend to increase gun purchases. Every time big government takes a step towards eliminating gun rights, there's a spike in guns and ammo sales. Maybe we ought to try something else.
