agree. I dug the visuals of aliens swarming over a base. But didn’t care for the movie. I stopped It when they consulted with hs student on how to save the world.

They could have easily just followed the book and made it a period piece that took place near the end of the Vietnam War. The book was excellent, probably Clancy’s best work. Absolutely no good reason to fool with it.

Yea that was pretty moronic. If you needed to learn about volcanoes to save the world, would you depend on a high school kid who loves volcanoes or a world leading volcanologist?
Also they made it seem that every country agreed quickly to join to send their army against the aliens. Given our human nature and society nowadays I don’t think even alien attack would unite us (half of the people would want peace the other half war)

“So let me get this straight. With the full weight of humanity behind you and 30 years of advancement in technology, you’re getting your asses kicked?”

    “Correct.”

“And the answer you’ve come up with is to throw more manpower at the problem by dropping armies that are 30 years behind yours right into the middle of the fight?”

    “Right you are.”

“And let’s just say that isn’t enough, you know, just since that didn’t work for you with your own militaries. What then? Start drafting untrained, unskilled people and dropping them straight into the fight?”

“Well, actually, that is the next step.”

“Okay, follow me on this, aren’t you just providing your enemy with more food and growing the threat?”

    “Uh …”

“What if we do this instead? You send us everything you’ve got on the aliens, including some live specimens for us to test here, you know, where we aren’t being overrun. You send us your top scientists, engineers, biologists, etc. You send us everything else useful you’ve learned in the next 30 years. Then we will spend 30 years preparing the planet for this threat. That’s more time and effort than it took us to get to the moon. I’ll bet we come up with a solution.”

    “Uh … okay.”

Late to this thread but here goes.

sci-fi favorites are the original “The Day The Earth Stood Still” and “Forbidden Planet.” I got hooked on “Dune” which has Sting in it. Very long movie. The remake is coming out this month. I’m excited as hell to see it.

“Slap Shot” is a hilarious sports movie and my favorite.

“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” is one that intrigued me. Why I don’t know.

“Find Me Guilty” is a movie that didn’t get a lot of pub. Vin Diesel actually plays a real acting part in it and made me realize he’s more that a bang bang tough guy actor.

“Harold and Maude” cracks me up every time. Ruth Gordon and Bud Cort are the 2 main actors. Love Ruth Gordon.

If you want to sit back and have some fun watch “Real Steel”. Great feel good movie for the entire family.

Another nice family movie is “August Rush”. Robin Williams plays the part of a bad guy.

Every time “My Cousin Vinny” and “We’re the Millers” pops up on TV I have to watch.

I’m kind of a cheesy loving movie guy. I sit and watch Lifetime and Hallmark movies with my wife.

“Sons of Anarchy” and “Band of Brothers”are excellent series.

Currently me and the wife are watching the series Anne (with an E).

Recently saw "Free Guy" and "Ghostbusters: Afterlife".
Both very entertaining for me and my family.

Ghostbusters brings back a lot from the original. If you were a fan, you'll enjoy this one. Also....stay until the very end of the credits.

My wife and I enjoyed both of them. Saw the latest Dune, makes the original Dune look like a bunch of HS students did it and I liked the original.

Definitely a pit of back stabbing vipers in this ultra wealthy family. Everyone wants a piece of the pie. Everyone wants to sit at the head of the table.

I usually favor the small slice of life type films
I have enjoyed American Rust series on Showtime Waiting for season 2.
    Fundamentals of Caring -comedy
The Power of the Dog - western sort of
Mudbound - WW2 era black family/white family - nominated for a bunch of Oscars
The Florida Project- single mom and kid living in a budget motel eking out a living.
The Irishman - Mafia and Hoffa - Joe Pesci plays a gentle thoughtful type of mafioso.

Correction: half the country would believe it’s a hoax and the aliens were crisis actors funded by Soros, yet these same people would simultaneously also somehow believe a certain orange deity should lead them into battle.

Not per se movie recommendations but:

If you are a fan of The Beatles, the new Get Back documentary on Disney+ is truly fascinating. Watching them construct some of the greatest songs of all time along with the interpersonal dynamics is amazing.

And on Netflix, Lost in Space's final season, number 3, just dropped. Even if the show may not be for you, it's the best looking thing I've ever watched on my 4k tv.

Right now we're watching some episodic stuff: Ted Lasso, Bebop Cowboy, and the new Dexter. Best sci-fi I've seen lately is probably The Abyss. I love sci-fi, but it's hard to get right. Also a fan of some old creature features like "The Thing."

One of the better movies I've seen recently. Really enjoyed it.

Going to watch The Last Duel this week. Hoping to watch The French Dispatch as well.

Passing & Power of the Dog on Netflix. Both will almost certainly be in the Oscar picture.

As a home theater guy, this may also be the best sounding stream I've heard.

Just started watching season 3 last night w/ my 10 yo boy that looks kinda like Will. As you might imagine - he loves the show.
