Before this spring’s state legislative session, a majority of Floridians believed the state was on the right track (46% right track / 42% wrong track). As the session came to a close, however, 50% believe the state is headed in the wrong direction, while only 42% think it’s on the right track.

Pollsters Florida Watch and Progress Florida, collectively known as the Florida Communications and Research Hub (Hub), attribute this shift in their surveys to Floridians’ growing dissatisfaction with the agenda carried out by Gov. Ron DeSantis and legislators in Tallahassee.

“When we look back on this legislative session, it is clear Floridians do not believe that Gov. DeSantis and legislative leaders focused on the priorities they believed would improve their lives,” said Progress Florida Executive Director Mark Ferrulo.

In February, before the legislative session, the Hub’s polling showed DeSantis with a 60% approval rate and the Florida Legislature with 49% support from voters. But by the time the legislative session was winding down, in late April and Early May, their surveys found that the governor’s approval rating dropped by a whopping 19 points (50% approve / 49% disapprove).

You mean people in Florida don’t like that the state picks fights with a large employer and then passes laws that the majority of the people oppose and it isn’t popular. I am shocked I tell you shocked.

When did 50% become " most"? I have always thought it was half.

I’m not a math wiz so someone please help me out.

How does DeSantis approval rating go from 60% to 50% and be considered a 19 point drop? Wouldn’t a 19 point drop translate to a 41% approval rating?

So what? The pendulum swing is indicative of the unsatisfied voter. No one should boast about it, both parties claim "victory" but its a 2-6 year power swing.

The problem is the stupidity of the avg voter.

They probably hit the 9 instead of the 0 when they meant 10 point drop. Still ten points is a pretty big drop in Florida for a Republican.

He went from +18 to -1, or something like that? A '19 point swing' would be a better way to describe it...

From someone who leans right I am in this boat also. Going to 6 weeks on abortion and the disney crap was very dumb politically in my opinion. He handled Covid just about as good as any large state, but since then I have not agreed with a lot he has done.

The correct way of stating it is that there was a 19-point swing in net approval (from +20 to +1). Still, this isn't inspiring. The fact that 50% still approve of him after everything is quite sad.

just wait until the new insurance rates continue to hit home and the impact from so many undocumented workers leaving the state hit all the business interests that are dependent on that labor force. the effects of all these new laws haven't really been felt yet. OBGyn's are leaving ad medical schools are going to have a hard time training students with no abortions allowed. it's a total CF and the voters have themselves to thank for it. hopefully this dissatisfaction burns all those in the state legislature that rolled over for desi and the gang. They are complicit in this CF

50% wrong track vs. 42% right track. So, 8% had no opinion or didn’t respond?

To be more technically accurate they could say something like “majority of respondents with an opinion said wrong track”, but that seems like picking nits. There is a spread of +/-8.

It’s an interesting shift. It would make sense considering some of Desantis policies are quite unpopular (going up against 70% popular opinion). Other states have seen some electoral pushback on some of these issues. Could be an outlier, but I’m honestly not sure how anyone could be pleased with this governors nonsense (outside the 30% hardcore culture warriors that want to ban all abortions, go after birth control, persecute gays, etc). Dude is 100% culture wars and he’s actually causing issues in schools (making teacher shortages worse). No thanks!
