One could also ask, how many Jewish lives were saved because 31 terrorists are now dead and other terrorists have to rethink where they hide themselves and might realize hiding in schools is a bad idea?

We are just taking the killers word they are terrorists? The people that say campus protestors are in league with Hamas? This is the problem of using these terms.

It's like that saying, there will be peace when Hamas (insert terror organization here) loves their children more than they hate Israel.
Sadly, for whatever political and religious reasons, that will never be the case. They would rather see their children and wives dead than see them live their lives next door to a bunch of Jews.

My numbers are pretty darn accurate, to the imperfect extent that we know. Each, of course, divided by 1,000.

-Approximately 1,000 (1200) Israelis and foreign nationals killed on October 7th.
-Approximately 10,000 Hamas fighters killed since then. (If that.)
    -Approximately 30,000 civilians killed.

The only place those numbers could be off are if there may only-only- have been 20-25,000 civilians killed since 10/7/23, or if it's actually fewer Hamas fighters killed.

Of course we haven't mentioned the 1.5 million (?) displaced. (Homeless now.) Nor have we mentioned those now starving.

Sorry if those numbers are surprising to you. Have you just not truly considered the criminal scope of the Israeli response?

where do you get 30,000 civilians killed? Why do you think the Hamas number may be too high?

From reading all kinds of things. Do you have different credible estimates? Nothing wrong with more information.....

Of course the problem is how many people consider varying sources incredible. And Hamas being a de factor government or service provider in much of Gaza, basic workers have been counted as "fighters" by some.

But lets see what you got, if you dispute that.

What you think? 30,000 seems pretty "conservative" or probably accurate.

    https://www.reuters.com/world/middl...nians-has-israels-campaign-killed-2024-07-25/

Palestinian health authorities say Israel's ground and air campaign in Gaza has killed more than 39,000 people, mostly civilians, and driven most of the enclave's 2.3 million people from their homes.

The Lancet medical journal published a letter from three academics, opens new tab on July 5 estimating that indirect deaths, caused by factors like disease, might mean the death toll is several times higher than official estimates and possibly above 186,000.

The U.N. human rights office and the Humanitarian Research Lab at the Yale School of Public Health have also said that the true figures are likely higher than those published, without giving specifics.

A study this week by London-based Airwars – a non-profit compiling detailed lists of casualties from open source material - found a correlation of at least 75% between its lists and those of Gazan authorities for thousands of people killed in the early weeks of the war.

In May, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said 14,000 Hamas fighters and 16,000 Palestinian civilians had been killed in the war.

This is what's so funny. Hamas is literally trolling everyone with fake numbers and the gullible just eat it up.

In reality its probably much, much higher. People have been tossing around the 30k number for months now.

What's actually funny is people like you saying things that are so laughably disconnected from reality.

As of late July, Palestinian health authorities said there were appx 39,000 civilian casualties. In May Netanyahu put the number at 16,000, probably being 20,000 by now in his estimation.

My positing a reasonable estimate of almost exactly in between those numbers is hardly "partisan" or irrational in any way. Particularly when many experts estimate the figure to be much higher.

    And yet you babble....

I don’t have hard numbers. This thread discussed the issue

How the Gaza Ministry of Health Fakes Casualty Numbers

Nearly all reported casualties in media is Gaza Health Ministry which is Hamas. The thread demonstrates how their numbers are baked. Who knows what the right numbers are.

    this is six months old

Israel Gaza: Checking Israel's claim to have killed 10,000 Hamas fighters - BBC News

my take is 30k+ total is likely accurate but that likely includes all Gazan deaths all causes, including Hamas. They were reporting 10k-12k Hamas back in Feb from IDF. The purported woman and children counts by Hamas is likely bullshit.

What is different about this war that we are taking casualty counts vs fighters and computing ratios to determine reasonableness? I don’t recall that being done on any US military action?

Neither you nor I are deliberately mistating estimates of fact.

Back to the original point: the disproportionate retaliation is insane. And inhumane. Appx 30,000 civilians killed in response to appx 1200 being killed or taken? In order to kill an estimated 10,000 "fighters"?

Not to mention the millions of displaced and starving.

In order to do WHAT? The Israeli response is a failure of epic proportion.

    Swing and a miss, Sport.

The leadership of Hamas enjoys this conflict - their power depends upon it.

The leadership of Hamas thanks you. They will gratefully credit people like you when they kill people in future terrorist acts. Must feel good....

I have read in April that Biden gave $14B in aid to Israel. Then I read that is in addition to the $700M handed out to Palestinian civilians in the West Bank this year. So in reality we send billions to one country but then millions to another which basically helps the Palestinians against the damage the money we gave to Israel caused. What an ideal situation. Add in the millions of dollars the idiotic protesters (mostly supporting Lebanon even though 90% of them couldn’t find the country on the map) have cost this country the last several months and the overall burden to American taxpayers has been enormous.

IMO, it is well past time to pull back and let others try to figure this out because right now the US is just throwing away billions of dollars and getting nothing in return. I don’t agree with Trump on a lot of things but I definitely agree that the days of the US footing the bill while our allies sit back and do little need to be over.

You start off with some good points.

And then.....Trump would spend less on this conflict?! He'd cut aid to Israel? Cut off any and all humanitarian aid to Palestinians?

Makes no sense. I mean, maybe he'd more fully convince the people of America that millions of homeless Gazans should starve. And we'd save a few bucks that way....

The aid we give to Israel comes right back to us as they spend it on military purchases. The aid to Palestinians is mostly humanitarian aid. Ironic that we give aid to Israel just so they can decimate the West Bank, forcing us to give humanitarian aid, but the question is, what happens if we stop supporting Israel?

Stop supporting Israel and there would be more Oct 7 type attacks, and more dead Israeli civilians. That's no better than dead Palestinian civilians in my opinion.

The problem is there is no answer. Palestinians support Hamas, who want to destroy all of Israel and kill all Jews. Netanyahu wants to kill all Hamas and doesn't care who he hurts or kills in the process. Neither goal is attainable.

There are no good answers when both sides want to fight. It's a fine line, but we can't stop sending aid to Israel. Biden was right to oppose certain weapons, but we can't abandon Israel completely. At the same time, there's no way to defeat a terrorist organization that actively recruits from the civilian population that's being targeted.
