I guess I see it a little different. Not sure how valid it is to compare the building of a new nation, due to the Kings squander and mismanagement of the colonies to a current day politician who evades existing rule of law to try and stay in power.

If someone like Trump did refuse to leave office and was successful, we would be looking to build a new nation, the Republic would be over, the rule of law under the Constitution discredited. That's why in history you see things like the Third Republic in France, because there were periods of empire/monarchical rule, between periods of republican governance.

Good discussion wgb. Let's get back to the No Labels group. I am interested in what others may think about these folks. They seem to have a pretty even split between moderate D's and R's.

Sounds great in a vacuum. And then a slightly different tiny set of the hyper-rich hijack it and do the same things all other hyper-rich do, advance their own interests at the expense of everyone else.

It's a group of Bloomberg/finance world/tech/Big Biz wealth horders. Some of them are overlappers, like Bloomberg and Harlan Crow (Clarence Thomas' sugar daddy.) They mainly claim to support nebulous social issues with no chance of success while pursuing the same economic policies that perpetuate keeping wealth away from the hordes. More recently they have added what before The Crazy we'd call standard Republicans. Larry Hogan, Joe Lieberman, etc. They did get Ben Chavis just recently. But those guys are beards for all the super rich players behind the scenes. Not quite Gates/Musk/Bezos types, the second stringers desperately trying to get in the starting lineup.

They really don't care if they sink this or that candidate, they are plugged in no matter what. What does it matter to all these people if they sabotage, purposely or not, this or that person? A little harder to capture more of the money, but it's no actual risk so long as one of the Big Two stay in place. They are shielded from all of the culture wars. They just buy their way through minor annoyances like spending thousands to get the mistress an abortion. Cops are afraid of them. They won't be within 10 miles of a public bathroom.

And per wgb's thesis, this group would ABSOLUTELY embrace authoritarianism in order to maintain the status quo before accepting a major change to the existing power structure. The only problem for this group is that they are just a step or two away from the top of the power ladder, not that there is something wrong with the ladder. But they'd def rather see Donald Trump spend another four years trying to put journalists in jail and sharing all the intel he can get with Russia before they'd support making Amazon pay one red cent of taxes.
