That's some fun reading! In the pic with the team circled up, note the midget in the blue shirt standing next to Rioux. Yep. That's 7'-1" Micah Handlogten. Jeebus.
If that kid gets in shape and can move modestly (and stay healthy), he is going to change games. Here’s hoping!
For all of the reasons you listed, I can easily see him being a six year player for us. Hope I'm wrong about the 6th year, though, as that would mean medical RS.
Saw Rioux up close at the fball game Saturday, holy moly that is one giant dude. Met Dwayne Schintzius up close back in the 80’s and he was a giant but Rioux is on another level.
I was on a GNV ATL flight with DS once, and he was in coach. That was an experience. Made even more interesting by the fact that his GF with him was probably barely five feet.
In that stuff, I can't pick out our other freshman giant, Viktor Mikic. 6'-11" freshman from Serbia. Any news on him?
7'-9", 7'-1", 6'-11", 6'-11", 6'-10", 6'-9", 6'-8". We got bigs. Is this the tallest college team in America?
Ollie and Big Meat, on the bench ready to help. This makes me feel secure we are going to party around the Net for sixty minutes a game!
Exciting to read that he's excelling athletically. He has the potential to combine a Chandler Parsonsesque offensive game with a more physically defensive ability/mindset. High ceiling for Haugh, Condon, Aberdeen & others. I can't wait to see how Walter & Alijah Martin play together/off each other.
A really good team that almost won the Natty had Kendell Gill (6' 4"), Nick Anderson (6' 6"), Marcus Liberty (6' 8"), Kenny Battle (6' 5") and Stephen Bardo (6' 6"). Lost in to Michigan in the semis to Michigan when Glen Rice went crazy and barely beat the Flying Illini. Illinois had CRUSHED Michigan home and away in the regular season. IIRC Michigan beat Seton Hall in the Finals in OT. Height doesn't always mean great.
Not always. But it's extremely rare to see a team as small as that Illinois team be as good as that. That team was the best in the country, even though they lost to Michigan.
