I watched Cincinnati Bear cat football game several years ago and Tommy Tubeville was one of the commentators the Bear cats had a third and very long for a first down. Tubbeville made the comment that is what got me run out of football! Too many third and longs! Lol
We threw to the boundary way too often and abandoned the run…. Both are because they don’t trust our oline. Which to me, is on coaching. You’ve put so much investment into the line (2 coaches, portal), and that’s what you have? Blaming the double number problem on a freshman not switching jerseys when you have 500 support personnel is bush league yakking about culture and character and how the players all know each others names reminds me of an Auburn podcast I listened to last year where their coach was emphasizing a lot of that and their fan base was LIVID. “Not why we are giving you 8mil coach, and it’s not translating to an effective offense or wins”. They fired that coach and we all made fun of Auburn coaching cycles… they now have Hugh freeze and are gonna win some games. Running Billy’s style takes great TE’s and a great oline… we may not have either… great coaches adjust their plan. Stubborn coaches do not
Mullen coached under Urban forever and he didn't seem to care about losing as a HC. I don't think that personality trait is contagious, unfortunately.
Watching the pressers from some of the other losing coaches around the country. I’m good with BN’s approach.
Im good with a calm reserved demeanor and the measured coachspeak during interviews. What I am not good with and would like to see different is some fire and emotion on the sidelines. Hold people accountable, get in their face, get on the refs, bring some energy to the team. I dont think we are talented enough yet to simply take a cool and calculated workmanlike approach in game. These kids need emotion and fire!
But that in itself is another problem. We have other more athletic tight ends that could be playing. If you say no we don’t then again, that is a problem as he’s had two recruiting classes and great opportunities to shore weak positions up in the portal. Why didn’t we grab a good tight end in the portal? It’s on our staff at this point. There were several tight ends in the portal that would have upgraded our tight end room in a major way. If you agree with me about having more athletic tight ends then that’s a problem too as they need to be on the field. Again, portal was the easy answer here. Plenty of good options available. One power 5 school grabbed two tight ends in the portal. Playcalling- Zanders shovel pass as an example and best personnel not playing are concerns. Defensively, I believe it was Kelby Collins or Searcy that looked great but only got 8 snaps. I believe had 2-3 QB pressures in those few snaps. Zanders and Odom need to not be on the field more than Livingston and Boardingham when he’s healthy. Collins and Searcy need to play over upperclassmen if they are not producing. Hoping to see a different Princely vs UT
There were like 6 errors on special teams a decent high school team doesn’t make. Pure gaslighting or ignorance. There is no harm in saying we were awful on ST but we will get better. There is more to lose by acting like it was decent.
I dont disagree with anything you said. Is Bordingham healthy? I thought we might see more of him at some point. We basically saw every TE and I would give the nod to Livingston for athleticism, if he hadn't stumbled with nothing but green grass in front of him. Man he was wide open and had a chance to convert a 3rd and long. The zip injury hurts too, because I still had hope he would come along and take the job, optimistic borderline delusional Fandom at this point I know. Haha
Anyone knows when was the last time we blocked a punt or field goal? When was the last time we returned a kickoff or punt for TD?
Lets focus on not fielding punts inside the 10 first. Once we master that we can work on returns with big gains
Heck, just don't run it out of the end zone to where we start. on the 18 yard line or worse instead of the 25.
You don't even have to be in the end zone. Fair catch the kickoff anywhere short of the 25 and they put it on the 25.
Ugh. That answer makes my skin crawl. There isn’t a place on the scoreboard for “volume of plays.” That is one of the weakest things I have ever heard. After one play Thursday Utah was probably “behind schedule” on volume of plays but guess what? They were up 7-0 in volume of POINTS.
We need to keep that quote in context. He was specifically asked about the effect of the change in rules for the clock. He was answering that.
Did you bother to listen to the press conference? Do you know what that statement was in reference too? Gotta love when people take something totally out of context and blast it all over a message board as a negative when they have no clue what they are talking about.
It's not how long you have the ball, it's what you do with it when you have it...... That football fundamental, is a statement that we fans have ALL heard forever. It's not a crime to score points........ Oklahoma made Butch Jones cry on the sidelines in their game..... Some Sooner fan doing a commentary on that game said, "There's no crying in football." He would have put the starters back in while up 73, and had the Offense score a "honeybun" (100) on them!....... Man, I miss those Gator games....... GO GATORS!!!!
I watched it and it is not out of context. The same rules also apply to our pace of play and the “urgency “ comments out there.
