The ‘best’ players on the playoff teams won’t be the ones jumping into the portal machine, some of their 2’s & 3’s will. The players to get now were the better players on the other teams. Guys that have maybe proven they deserve a pay raise and want more exposure. No reason not to aggressively pursue some of them now. Hanging on to your better players is a big part of the equation too.
Some of these teams have stacked talent, and don't be so sure that we won't get a starter from one of those playoff teams. Especially if one of those teams losing in the first round. OSU is playing Tennessee, who knows what/who shakes loose from that game.
FTR, a poster on another site posted pics with the team in Tampa. He said he mingled with a few and lightly tread around the Pyburn situation. He said the players are careful not to say too much about money and NIL because it's sensitive but...with pyburn it was about money. Said he made a joke about competition pushing him and they reiterated...it was money. TIFWIW
Our daughter said BN was seen driving a Lambo around Gainesville. It’s none of my business and he can buy most anything he wants. But, to me, that’s not a great look for many reasons. As humble as Billy seems, I just wouldn’t expect this. A quasi analogy is when Jimmy (deNiro) is infuriated when one of his crew buys his wife a fur coat and a new car, flaunting his new found wealth in public. I know it’s vastly different but similar. I really don’t care - if BN can win us championships, he can drive a Time Machine if he wants.
It is the new world of CFB unfortunately. Money is being thrown all over the place right now. You have some players who are getting in the portal fast so they can try and transfer to their top choice. After the bowl games and playoff tho, there will be MANY more players in the portal for us to look at. The other contributing issue is the 105 roster cap. It almost feels like we are doing housecleaning and trying to see who needs to leave before we go portal hunting. It is tough when you see guys like Pyburn and Searcy leaving. But they both played well at a position that Gumbs played VERY well. The days of being 2-3 deep at all times are gone. the 1s will stay, and you have to keep reloading the 2s and 3s via portal/HS
Reporting sucks all around, it seems the pundits are getting more and more outrageous because everyone is starving for clicks. Information was much purer before the "Information Age" began. But now everyone wants to be a blogger or influencer and this is the result. Truth is irrelevant, what matters is ruffling feathers and inciting fans.
The portal closes Dec 28th, this is before the quarterfinals(major bowls). If their name is not in it by then they must wait until the spring portal in the last two weeks of April.
