Missouri fires Martin; rival coaches critical of move Several Coaches criticized Missouri's decision: Frank Martin, Rick Barnes. Jerry Stackhouse & Bill Self.
For perspective, Missouri also did not make the NCAA Tournament for 4-years straight after the Kim Anderson failure. Here were those records: 2017: 8-24 2016: 10-21 2015: 9-23 2014: 23-12 (Haith), missed NCAAs Martin did bring Missouri back to the NCAA post-season; although, his results were up & down. The worst of it were two quick 1st RD exits from the NCAA Tournament.
Not surprised. He also had some bad luck with injuries. I recall when Mizzou joined the sec, they were supposed to upgrade the SECs basketball rep, hasn't happened. Baseball and football haven't added a lot either. Even their academic rep has dropped in recent years
I'm honestly surprised he tanked so bad there. He had always been an unexciting baseline level go 10-8 in conference and make the tournament as a 9 seed kinda coach before.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen that type of reaction from fellow coaches. Either a really wonderful human being (he is) or they are worried what it means for their jobs.
