Oh and a real cold case I’m also curious about: Row6. I left the forums for a few years long ago, and he wasn’t around when I came back. He was one of the main faces of the left here back when the forum was overwhelmingly right-leaning.
You guys remember a lot more names than I do. I have pretty specific memories about a handful … but you guys can come up with so many more …
Finny thing is, the sports forums are (were?) just as bad. Dan Mullen was a dead man walking when he got off the plane. And those who supported him may as well have been Hillary Clinton supporters to some of them. All those stupid names our rivals come up with? Those guys were using them on our own.
When they first left, I reached out to a couple to get them back. But they wanted their rule-less, free space. I lurked there for a short time out of curiosity and then stopped reading the vile stuff posted. They would lurk here and vent their bile about posters here on that site. I just viewed it as not having the courage to address merits head on here. Just a preference to use name calling. We lost a few good posters but mostly name callers. I did find some of the insults creative and entertaining
Interesting. The owner of a forum would have to be concerned about allowing posters threatening violence and name calling, especially after 1-6. Especially an owner who actively posts.
Im pretty sure that’s why he restricted access to members only. I would occasionally lurk before that but wasn’t gonna sign up to read their bullshit. I would be surprised if a few of those morons weren’t in DC on January 6th.
They illustrate my point that a substantial percentage of the people in this country don’t care about fair elections.
I may have this wrong, but my recollection when perusing the site before and around 1-6 (I had been banned before that) was the owner said his brother would be in DC on 1-6. It could have been another poster but I think it was the owner. Seems like shortly after 1-6 the board started getting so crazy with posters crying for civil war and violence the owner became uncomfortable with it all and decided to make it private. Needless to say I was hated there. How I lasted so long or why I stayed I’m not sure. I actually got banned for hammering the owner on sports issues, not politics. Kind of a board suicide by cop if I’m being honest.
My password is still 6 characters no uppers or specials. Booyah There are a handful of people (probably all mods) who may know a name i used back in the day (when I was a bad boy around these parts and got banned once or thrice for various arguments with posters on Too Hot ). My password reflects that name.
I heard that second poster, stranded in brewery town solo, caught a very nice afternoon buzz and then wandered around exploring the neighborhood and had himself a good time.
Oaktown was one of the more true libertarian posters. Definitely had good, non partisan opinions and just observed each topic as a free thinking individual. We agreed on a lot. It was me, him, @96Gatorcise and Orangeblueorangeblue in the too hot libertarian camp back in the mid to early 2000s. Obob caught a ban I believe, made a brief comeback a few years ago, but didn't stick around
our secret mod database says obob was banned often under that name. Came back again under another five years ago was but outed and banned again.
Oak stopped posting and disappeared from GC a little over 2 years ago. No announcement, no fanfare. Just stopped posting never to return. A few years prior to that he had moved back to Florida - the St Pete area - after living many years in the Bay area of SF, CA. Oak was never secretive in the usual sense, but often made his moves and changes in his life without fanfare. Nice guy, was disgusted with the insults and barbs so frequently and freely thrown around on this forum. A real loss for GC.
Seemed like a nice guy but very sensitive. A bleeding heart for sure. Maybe when he returns, he’ll bring a sense of humor with him.
