Visiting my mom and watched the Golden Girls episode below. I was blown away by what was shockingly fat. This from 1988:
Our behavior yes, but also with the US moving up in affluence after WWII. Then in the 1950s when we started to mass-produce food rather than cook it at home. It's also the advent of new grains seeds that has resulted in bountiful crop yields but a massive drop in quality - essentially all of the wheat grown globally is junk compared to the wheat grown in the late 1800s. The the US' pyramid scheme, I mean food pyramid starting us on the slope of obesity. Today our food pyramid mirrors that of what researchers feed lab rats in order to fatten them up.
Not the topic but Golden Girls continues to be a severely underrated show in the history of sitcoms. It was pretty progressive with story lines and the jokes still hold up. It doesn't get enough credit
