200 minutes per game distributed as you see and hope. ( no overtime here) I hope nobody needs to log more than 30 minutes per game. I see Castleton and Appleby as the team leaders, but if either needs to play more than 30, it would mean trouble for the team in the depth at center and point guard.
Since Coach White has issues playing freshman their first year. Chances he goes with a small 3 guard offense rather than bigger FSU type lineup. No clue with all the transfers. Should be able to press more and get more guys in the game due to defensive skill set of transfers. No clue regarding who will step up on of offensive side, as big step up scoring against better SEC talent
I'll throw mine out: 1) Appleby 30/Jones 10 2) Jones 15/Lane 15/Phlandrous 5/Kowacie 5 3) McKissic 25/Phlandrous 10/Kowacie 5 4) Duruji 20/Felder 10/Phlandrous 10 5) Castleton 30/Jitoboh 5/Felder 5 I think Tyree Appleby will have a very solid year. Not quite to the level of All SEC, but he will impress us with his hustle, shotmaking, and leadership. With all the depth at the 2/3 positions, I think those positions will be completely interchangeable. We will see some 4 guard looks with Phlandrous or another bigger guard as the nominal power forward. If Jason isn't gettin it done, or if coach wants to run, they will at least try CJ at the 5. CJ's minutes at the 5 may go up if Florida comes across more teams going small this year. Speaking of the 5, Castleton will shoot close to 40% this year from distance- on a couple looks a game. I do not have big hopes for Duruji this year, and could see his minutes drop to 15 a game, allowing one of those overachieving wings to stay on the floor more. Really hope Duruji proves me wrong. He's a phenomenal run/jump athlete and seems like a great young man. I foresee back up point being an issue, ala 2019. I'm going to have to see Myreon Jones' handle and quicks to become a believer. That being said, Myreon's streak shooting will win us a couple extra games this year. Lane gets his 15 minutes game because of his defense. If Kowacie shows he can defend SEC regulars, his minutes could drift up. Besides Kowacie, I think the guy I'm most stoked about seeing on the court is Phlandrous. He's coming up from an extremely low level of competition. Much lower than what McKissic saw at UMKC or whatever it was. Out of the 33 or 34 conferences, Phlan's was ranked in the low 30's whereas McKissic's conference is more in the range of 17-22 or so. If Phlandrous is as athletic as I think he is, he will be our ex factor. Can't wait to see these Gator Boys Play!
I have no clue. Haven't seen a single practice. We absolutely need Castleton and Appleby to show up big and get lots of minutes. If KJ can play, he's our best guy, even if his minutes are closely monitored. Who know about the rest of them? Even though I don't like the transfer portal thing, it is what is. I'm looking forward to an entertaining season.
Curtis4, I believe McKissic is a point guard and Jones more of a 2 guard but I may be wrong. With that in mind, I’ll go with. Point: Appleby 25, McKissic 15 2 guard: Jones 25, Lane 10, McKissic 5 Wing: Fleming 20, Lane 10, Reeves 10 Power Forward: Duruji 20, Felder 20 Center: Castleton 30, Felder 5, Jitoboh 5
I am pretty close to your thinking, though I think App will be a 30+ mpg player. I think McKissic will see more than 5 minutes at the sg. I think the nature of the position (fouls), will keep CC around 25 minutes. I think JJ will get about 10 mpg, with Felder playing a few minutes at the spot. I am starting to think Fleming will start at the 3 - which will be the most interesting spot on the floor. I’ve heard great things about Niels and Kowacie. it will be interesting....
Legend, that was certainly the case at the their prior schools. I just saw the staff was trying Jones at the 1, as McKissic had been playing out of position at his last school at the 1, and bit on the GatorCountry article that reported that.
YOU get 30 minutes a game! YOU get 30 minutes a game! EVERYBODY gets 30 minutes a game! --Coach Winfrey Anyway, if Kowacie is as good as advertised, he'll get more minutes than you guys are projecting.
I certainly hope he does! However, Florida has 3 guys that play the wing spots who have already played a combined 11 years of college hoops. Secondly, Defense is how you get on the court in White's system, so that puts Neils Lane, a very good defender ahead of him as well. So that leaves the only way for him to see 20 minutes a game or more, is if he is some kind of transcendant scorer at the college level, as a Freshman. And THAT would be really good for this team.
How could someone with the work ethic that Reeves has- not start? He apparently lives in the gym and has a regiment since HS that is second to none in terms of preparation. He probably has the most explosive move to the rim and will either score or get fouled even if he does not have a SEC body yet. He is probably the best outside shooter on the team and has not taken one shot yet, so to relegate him to the bench out of a sense of loyalty to others is preposterous. The philosophy of not playing touted freshmen, and playing with tiny lineups has been a complete failure for White. He has not even come close to either winning the SEC outright or even the tournament. This is after inheriting a program that had put 10 or more people in the pros in a short period of time, and which competed for conference and national championships annually. If Stricklin cannot perceive the fall-off in results under White- most likely to continue if he insists on putting 6'3" guys against power forwards in the SEC, then perhaps Stricklin is the problem.
This is a wildly bizarre post. If Kowacie doesn't start, it will not be "out of some sense of loyatly to others". Where do you come up with this stuff? If I had to guess, Phlan Fleming will start at the 3 . . . a 6'5, 205lb senior who has had a pretty damn solid collegiate career. If you are going to rant about one guy starting over another. . . at least allow the season to start. And who is the "6'3 guy" you project will be going against a PF? Both Duruji and Felder are 6'7. And fwiw, Myreon Jones is probably the best outside shooter on the team. Very odd post.
Don’t see Lane getting 20 minutes a game. Reeves may get 10 but not more. I see 10 or under for Reeves.
Well, consider the source. All that stuff was just a windy setup to get to his point (that we all knew was coming) that Mike White is a "complete failure," for never having won the SEC.
The consensus seems to be that the 4 transfers plus Castleton, Appleby and Duruji should each log 20+ minutes There is a bit of uncertainty about how much Lane and Jitoboh have improved in order to command minutes and whether Reeves will earn a major role right away.
