Millennials and Gen Z will dictate American politics in 2024

Yeah; when people are forced within 10 years of my life to drink from a different fountain and get pissed;they are just being dramatic and “hey life isn’t fair”. When people get arrested for sleeping in their own home with someone they love; it’s just life and should accept it. I will take this to another level; In Ireland they got sick of that crap; Michael Collins had his men drag every governor of each English lead county at 6am into their front yard and put a bullet in their head. I am a huge fan of the early IRA. Blacks should have done that to every Dixiecrat congressman and senator.

I was raised as a viroulent southerner that believed the South was wronged;I was wrong. The South was wrong and should have suffered a lot worse.

 

I already responded. But I will restrain my emotion in this one. If you like; I am a prolific reader of studies; the number of studies that shows that words; I’ll say that again, “Words alone” cause more PTSD than physical assault. From an “other” perspective; being told everyday you suck; evil; less than; you are the child of the devil because your not white, male, Protestant, straight or a non-binary gender creates an environment as a child; 4th grade; that suicide is considered every day until one survives long enough they can find drugs; alcohol or become extremely resilient to enable survival.

Given actual double blind studies say this; I am curious what data you have to the contrary. I’ll be glad to provide my exesive amount of studies. As a privledged straight acting racist frat boy WASP who finally accepted who I am; I most definitely speak from a place of experience that you do not; unless you are married to a man like me or are a member of another 2nd class group. My anger with society at their ignorance pre-1990s is ferocious; have zero problem removing bigots from this planet. That’s my brutal southern heritage. Thank Odin I gave away all my guns. Every time I hear your level of stupidity I want to grab a BAR and clean out the scum.

 

You seem to ignore the tremendous age difference between the 2 generations.

Here's a tip. The biggest key to becoming wealthy is staying alive.

In general, the longer you live the more you accumulate. You will also be presented with more opportunities the longer you live....thus increasing your wealth over the length of your life.

Baby boomers have experienced a lot and have lived longer lives than millennials so pretending the 2 generations should be on equal footing when it comes to wealth distribution is misguided and comical.

Do you remember 18% interest rates? What about when banks hated to loan money for real estate? Do you remember when money loaned at 7-8% was cheap now it's expensive? Dot com bubble? Enron? Vietnam war and draft? You probably don't remember the majority of that.

Who would have ever guessed a millennial screaming they deserve the wealth of a 75 year old.....RIGHT NOW!?

And before you get too upset about the wealth distribution between boomers and millennials answer this question?

Which generation will benefit the most from baby boomers dying? (Hint it's not Gen Xers)

So stay alive and practice a little patience.

 

Your overdramatic reaction would do well in Hollywood. It’s a new day and what you’re describing and concerned about…those days are over. It’s amazing, in my neighborhood, you’ll see black families walking their dog, gay and lesbians each own homes here and they also jog right next to everyone else. You should come out and see it for yourself.

 

Based on your emotional and irrational post, my first thought is that you did some awfully bad things to people in your past, and you have a guilty conscience.
Your also now focused on helping others see it the way you do, so you can exonerate yourself or feel better about yourself.
One more note: I always strive to treat people the way I want to be treated. You have a very distorted version of reality if you ask me. People ain’t as bad as you think they are.

It's a new concept to millennials.

To every other generation it’s just pure logic.

 

Have Republicans ever won the 18-29 age group, lol? These stats are not really an endorsement of the Democratic agenda, are they? If a majority of young voters eventually become Republicans after 20 years, what does that say about the Dem agenda?

Democrats entice young voters by playing the Santa Claus routine. Once younger voters have to work and support a family after a number of years, their views begin to change, as they realize Santa Claus isn’t going to help their standard of living. After more real world and life experience, they switch their votes to Republican. What does that tell you?

 

I think younger people are more socially liberal but they don’t historically show up at same rates as older folks. I also think some people get more socially conservative when they have kids, want to start going to church, etc.

 

In 20-30 years it's been forecasted that whites won't be in the majority anymore, Latins will be the majority. Yes,the electorate will be flipped on its head.

 

Which is a truly scary thought when you look at the people elected in latin countries. Hopefully that changes.

 

People get conservative as they get older, marry, and have children.

The baby boomer generation was the hippie generation back in the 60s-70s.
Ages 18-29 Obama voters are all 32-43 years old now.
And the current 18-29 age group will get older as all people do in the future.

 

Somehow this is justification for boomers hoarding most of the wealth? The rest of us should just be grateful? Honestly, if someone said that to my face Id tell them to jump in a lake but less nicely.

 

Perhaps but progressive ideas keep be becoming mainstream. Gay marriage was a super progressive idea 30 years ago. Abortion is a mainstream supported idea now but the right wing doesn’t acknowledge this and just got their Lilly white butts kicked.

 

I was not trying to justify anything. Just a poor attempt at trying to point out how much wealth we take for granted which is an accumulation of past generations efforts, ideas & advances.

I turned 57 today. 100 years ago I’ve been dead (thanks wealth hoarders!) Btw, expectancy prob has a lot to do with wealth accumulation. We can feel victims of our success or attempt to reframe it in a more positive light

 

The reason that Millenials and members of Gen Z vote Democrat goes way beyond economics. Although I obviously cannot speak completely for him, my 35-year old son is somewhat of a libertarian and actually tends to be conservative on economic issues than I am. That being said he will vote Democrat so long as the Republican Party supports the establishment of a Christian theocracy including a virtual nearly across the board prohibition of abortions. He believes that while the government shouldn't be involved in most economic decisions it shouldn't interfere in personal autonomy based on religion either. Although perhaps not a majority I suspect that a number of millennials although perhaps not members of Gen Z feel the same.

 

Best advice I can give younger generations is to just get out and vote. Make your voice heard.
