Typing as I listen . . . We will take it. A lot improve, but decent first win. Those guys (transfers) did a good job, Phlan has been out for a few days with an injury, so we werent sure he was going to play - but he gave us minutes and did well. We limited him in second half. The two guards (myreon and mickissic) were very good. Will have to get used to playing minutes. They defend, make shots... I really like our transfers. Defensively we are trying to put more pressure on ball, pass denial, trying to extend pressure in half court, and mix in some zone press and man-press and showed a bit of 1-3-1. We did some good things. Fouled too much and let off gas. Some of that is substitutions and some is maturity. Every second we need consistency and character. Decent offense. At times the ball moved. Had some extra passes, and some inside-out. Some good possessions led to zero points... just didn't convert We got Colin going. We need to cut harder and set better screens. It is different offense than we have run here in the past. We will watch FSU tomorrow night, study film. We will all be locked into their game and then have a few days to prep.
If they can't get mentally ready for the next game then it's going to be a long season. And that means staying focused for the entire game.
Actually, I think that letdown in the 2nd half may have been good for them. Gives MW plenty to show them on film and should keep them from getting over confident. Or at least that's what I'm hoping for.
Anything on additional free throw work? They continue to be a piss poor team from the charity stripe…55% is absolutely abysmal.
I am not sure what you mean by "continue". Last year they finshed #44 of 340 teams and shot 75%. That said, tonite wasn't good.
What was CC last year? He has a decent looking free throw approach, but tonight he didn't make them. Just an anomaly?
Last night, it looked like most of his free throw shots were off to the left a little. "Correctable," the Zooker would say. His free throws last season were shaky the first half of the season, very reliable the last two months.
I was at the game and sit in the 3rd row behind our basket. Lane doesn’t even look at the rim when he shoots. I’m completely serious. His eyes are level and looking at the base of the basket. Weirdest thing I’ve seen. He’s relying 100% on his mechanics ok but to not even LOOK at the rim? Strange. I had higher hopes for him this year. Still seems a bit erratic.
It looked like that on TV but I thought surely it was just a weird angle - afraid the young man won't get much time if he can't hit free throws. This team kinda looks like a young colt trying to run. Another dozen games under their belt and may just be impressive. fsu could set us back in confidence - I would love to see our team come out scrappy as hell and compete at least based on hustle, defense and rebounding effort.
Wow, never seen that. Easy fix or should be. I’ve always been convinced free throwing in 70-80% practice. Of course practice must be good practice doing things technique wise the right way.
I was listening to mark wise on the broadcast and he kept saying he was “falling away or stepping back” on his free throws, particularly the second shot.
1995 NBA Finals Nick Anderson misses 4 free throws in a row for the Magic in a loss to the Rockets. The next time I played pickup a bunch of us went to the free throw line, took one look, closed our eyes and shot. We made most of our free throws. If you have repeatable mechanics it only takes one look, but keeping your eyes open if you miss is a big deal so you know where to go for a rebound.
