But not all 5 conferences had an undefeated champion.

The problem with this entire situation is that the committee is using subjective criteria, while attempting to call it an objective process. Who gets to decide who the “best” teams are? Of course the committee does, but the idea of a “best” four teams is entirely dependent upon opinions.

Hate to say it this could be the first time since the 4-team playoff format that an SEC team isn't in the final four. FSU is in by virtue of it's perfect season although both Bama and UGA are far better teams than FSU absent Jordan Travis and probably better even with a healthy Travis. Texas will most likely be the 4th team by virtue of its victory over Alabama at Tuscaloosa although the Bama team that beat UGA yesterday is a much better team especially on offense than the team that lost to Texas in September.

That’s like making an argument for liberty. ACC is not really a power five conference right now. If liberty had beat LSU, do they deserve to be in there then they lose their quarterback and he still let them play?

Using the last rankings, Georgia beat 1 top ten (9) and lost one (8), Michigan beat 1 top ten (6) and lost null, Washington beat 1 top ten (7) and lost null, FSU beat 0 top ten and lost null, Texas beat 1 top ten (8) and lost one (12), Alabama beat 2 top ten (1,9) and lost one (7). Ohio State beat one top ten (10) and lost one (2).

Considering FSU has no real resume to speak of it’s hard to say they should be in. Alabama has the best resume bar far. Washington didn’t play a difficult schedule and beat another “top 10” team that slo didn’t play much of a schedule. Texas lost to a good team and beat one. Ohio State probably deserves to be more than FSU but the written ‘one team per conference’ rule drops them out.

People say power, five conference like it makes the conferences equal, and it does not Washington, Michigan, and Alabama actually had to play very good teams in their championships, and that should be weighted as much as anything that shows how good you are right now not three or four months ago.

You saying the ACC is not a power 5 is your personal opinion and fan thinking. The committee views the ACC as an equal to the other 4 P5 conferences.

Liberty is not a P5 school so there is no comparison.

Should have kept the BCS computer polls to do the rankings. Don't understand why they got rid of them.

if you think a team that has Louisville as their second best team in their conference is equal to the SEC, I don’t know what to tell you. They are equal and name only. The pac 12 is about to lose the right to call themselves a power 5.

FSU's SOS is #86. All the other teams under consideration had way tougher schedules. Alabama's SOS is #2 and I think they get in over FSU. Semifinals will be Michigan/Bama; Washington/Texas.

And they only give the ranking to Louisville to make you feel a little better and not make their conference look like complete trash, which it is

When the margins are this close between 5 or 6 teams, trying to earn one of 4 playoff spots, knowing this was the weekend to make a statement. Michigan did, Washington did, Bama did, Texas did …FSU did not.

I’m starting to think the participants will be decided by which schools pay the committee members the most money. If correct my money is on the gumps, mutts, Texas and Michigan. ;)

    Agree.
And isn't it usually the case of what have you done lately?
Perhaps #3 Texas losing to #12 Oklahoma was worse than #3 Alabama losing to #11 Texas?

By the way, the AP Poll just came out.
    Michigan received 51 first-place votes. No. 2 Washington had 11 first-place votes,
and the Huskies were followed by Texas at No. 3 and Florida State at No. 4. All four
are conference champions, and all but the Longhorns are unbeaten.
Not sure how they leave out FSU. So Texas and/or FSU or Bama?

Yeah I meant in a season where all 5 had one, or all 5 had a loss champ. Someone is on the outside looking in, why go for the 4 team playoff knowing one of you is out.

Right now you have 3 undefeated Champs and 2 with one loss. And we are all split on leaving out an undefeated for a 1 loss and some are advocating for 2 one loss Champs to be in over the undefeated champ.

FSU was already in the top 4 so all they had to do was hold serve, which they did. Bama and Texas on the outside were the ones that needed to make a statement, which they did. So it goes to the head to head where Texas beats Bama.
MIch, Wash, FSU and Texas in that order.

3 P5 undefeated champs plus a 1 loss P5 champ that beat head to head the remaining P5 champ

As I said, not my personal preference but trying to think like the committee.

regular season matters, conference championship matters, head to head matters

I know this is a little bit of a stretch because it has been one sided for a while, but Ga Tech has 4 national title to UGA's 3.
If we played Bama in Tallahassee would you consider that a home game for us?
