The problem is not with the guy but with this thread. A thread was started under the guise of Michael Gerson's death while it was really an opportunity to bring Trump into the conversation. A comment about Trump was set up at the end of the first paragraph then followed up in the 2nd paragraph.
"Big deal"? Because I made a post? Is every post on these boards a "big deal"? I do find a flippant response to the death of anyone as pretty distasteful, and given the individual was a lauded writer and a tragic cancer death at a relatively early age it seemed rather mindless. Even more ironic that the poster appears to be a very strident conservative, and the deceased was also a neo-conservative (who dared call out Don)
Doubling down on lack of knowledge is rarely good either. FYI, he was a lauded ultra conservative writer.....Heritage Foundation, Bob Dole, George Bush. Aren't those your party?
Nice remembrance of Gershon and Michael Pertschuk by James Fallows Michael Pertschuk, Michael Gerson: May Their Memories Be Blessings
Not really my party. I’m a working man’s republican. Those a good guys though but ultimately just politicians. I hate politics.
Why doesn't OP just admit that Saint Donny is the most persecuted patriot ever so the pumpers can then find out who the deceased is and why it is worth all that Google effort.
I would most definitely not expect opposition to a post that so clearly and factually sets forth why, in so many words, Donald Trump not only disgraced the presidency, but America, and who created a toxic atmosphere by allowing the worst Americans to give voice to their worst impulses. There is no kindness, much less an adherence to Christian values (this is supposedly a Christian nation, right?), in Donald Trump or in those who defend him.
The difference is that unlike the Republicans the Democrats have never claimed to be the party of faith and family. Whether or to what extent one is a believer also doesn't mean that they shouldn't criticize blatant hypocrisy. I would also add that members of a certain American political party not only ignore but in some cases actively oppose biblical edicts to welcome the stranger, house the homeless and feed the hungry while claiming to follow the word of G-d.
This is the very point I am making, thank you. I love to see blatant hypocrites called out, when are you going to do so to the Democrats who are clearly the most hypocritical of all? I have no idea who you are talking about here. Would you mind being a little clearer when you make accusations. You tend to either generalize, which I am cool with, as I can do that as well, or speak in innuendo, which no one likes.
Welcoming the stranger, housing the homeless and feeding the hungry are not ends in themselves. They are means to an end. The end is glorifying God. If a government program fed people for the glory of God, they'd get sued faster than you can say "Establishment clause".
I subscribe to WAPO on line. Great journalism. Gerson was a very good conservative columnist. Not a right wing extremist. So, I can understand why you would not like his columns or even know who he is. For someone who equates Trumpism with conservatism, it would be very hard for anyone to identify with a conservative who doesn’t cater to hate filled bigots
