Get well Micah, I know the guys on the team like and respect you, hope your recovery goes well. Take care big guy!
Hate this for any young athlete, but Micah is really special to us because of his character, heart and work ethic. Prayers for a full and speedy recovery, Micah.
If it’s just the bone and not the ankle or ligaments he could be walking around in a few months. Hopefully the surgery goes well and there are no complications other then setting off the metal detectors at the airport! Being basketball ready is another matter, but a bone break is “better” than a blown knee or Achilles at least in terms of the rehab and ability to get to 100%. But as always you have to hope for minimal complications when a surgery is involved.
I mean, if it had to happen somewhere, him having surgery at the Vandy medical center is about as good a place as any in the country. Wondering how that will work logistically though. Will the doc there hand him off to a doc in Florida for the follow ups? Because there will be a few.
At Vandy medical center? Hmmm… I wonder if the visitor seating in his patient room will be at the far ends of the room, quite a distance from his bed and unlike most patient rooms that have visitor chairs close to the sides of the court uh, I mean bed. Hoping the architect for Vandy’s gymnasium does not also design medical facilities. Seriously, it is important he had an air cast set and was able to get surgery soon after the accident; I’m certain he will receive excellent care at this facility.
Looked like an open tibia/fibula. From the site of bleeding, probably above the ankle. It's a bad injury but he has all offseason to rehab. Hope he recovers fast and comes back to the Gators.
Doctors are not gods, although many of them think they are. The Vandy doc doesn't get the ultimate say. It's up to Micah and his family to make that decision.
Prayers to you Micah. Wishing you the best in your recovery. Rest assured, all of Gator Nation is on your side and is pulling for you!
I see this type of injury often at those trampoline gyms that have become so popular. Open and closed. I will never get on a trampoline after what I have seen. Kids are fine but nearly full grown teenagers and up...pass. That is a lot of shearing force if you come down at the wrong angle. I'm grateful nothing like that ever happened with as much basketball as I have played over the years. Micah is a big guy that landed at a bad angle. Not common but I wouldn't call it a completely freak thing either.
The trampoline thing is just asking for it, it’s not “natural”. Plus don’t the injuries usually happen because they hit the frame of the trampoline or a seam in the mats? With how high some kids jump in basketball I suppose it’s fortunate this type of thing rarely happens (esp when there is contact around the rim). I can only think of a couple fractured leg incidents (Wade from Louisville and Paul George from the NBA).
Ome cannot give enough appreciation for a guy who did so many things to affect winning that didn't show up in the box score.
