You are correct, a 24 year old man hanging out with a 19 year old who happens to kill him is not equal to a young mother car jacked and murdered in front of her daughter by a complete stranger in my eyes. Now if further facts come out this could change but from what we know so far the situations are not equal.

 

This country desperately needs criminal justice reform. Too many people are incarcerated, and way too many people end up mired in the justice system for petty or forgivable offenses.

The problem is the Democrats are dumb and they never learn. Their answer to police brutality..."Defund the Police!" Sure, there are plenty of better ideas out there, but because the Democratic Party is ruled by the activist class and twitter, any decent ideas are drowned out by the low IQ, permanently online, activist class that shrink down any ideas to a slogan.

Then incarceration. Lighter sentencing and releasing inmates is part of a reform idea, but they are distant steps. But it's hard to reach those steps so the Democrats become like that meme of the shoeless teenager in the stairwell stepping from the landing to four steps up. So they get "reform" state attorneys and judges to do the easy thing of offering and accepting reduced charges and lighter sentences, thus resulting in a non-rehabilitated, still violent criminals back on the streets to continue their mayhem. And the result? Republicans "pounce" and "seize", and the cowardly Democrats retreat. Look at police budgets. Watch what goes on in the courts in Memphis over the next year.

That is sad and brings back a bad memory.

In 1973 my wife avoided being carjacked in broad daylight by having a gun in her purse that she pulled out and showed the carjacker as he started to punch out the lock in her car door using a screwdriver. But guns are bad to some people who would love to disarm everyone.

Violent criminals are being released too soon in too many instances. Fortunately some of us are armed and stand a chance at survival.

To say one victim of an unprovoked murder is somehow lesser than another is beyond my experience. I can't fathom it.

Tunstall's daughter and unborn child will likely miss their father just as much as Parker's children. It's a tragedy and to openly weigh the value of victims' lives does them a severe disservice.
