Memorial Day - the day set aside to remember with gratitude and pride all those who served and died for our country and our freedom.

May your day and weekend be filled with happy memories and peace as we remember the many brave men and women who have given their lives through the history of our country to protect us from danger and harm. Let us remember all those who sustained injury in the mind and/or body in the course of their services. Let us salute all those who have, are, and will serve in the military.

    God Bless and Thank You!

Yes, let us be thankful for those who served and are still serving. Let us also remember that Memorial day is all about those that paid the ultimate price, not necessarily those that served.
Many people seem to confuse Memorial Day and Veterans Day. It's a seemingly small thing, but there is a big difference.

I get that Trump's attitude toward the military seems pretty unusual, even perhaps unique. Especially for someone who wraps himself in the flag the way he does.
But ... I'm also not sure that we need to turn a Memorial Day tribute to fallen servicemen and women into a anti-Trump thread.
Maybe one of you who wants to talk about Trump and the military could start that thread and we can put the Trump stuff there ... and have one about Memorial Day ...

Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God.

A very big difference. I served, and wish people wouldn't thank me for that. I paid no price, but was rewarded many times over. Nunzio regularly reminds us for whom Memorial Day is in honor of.

Remember those who spilled blood and died so you can be free. That came at a cost. Never forget that.

RIP to my fallen comrades. I lost a few good friends in the post-911 wars.

I recently watched a program about two troops of chimpanzees intimidating each other by beating their chests and hooting. It was a prelude to violence and death over territory.

I just listened to a segment on TV about the Chinese beating their chests by sending planes, ships, drones and other intimidating instruments of war around Taiwan when Pelosi visited.

Millions of years of evolution haven’t produced much in the long term beyond environmental degradation and gradual destruction of the planet.

A male lion will kill the cubs sired by other males so they can mate with the female and promulgate THEIR DNA. Advancing armies will rape the women of the invaded country for the same reason.

Is there a pattern here? If there any hope for mankind and the planet?
I’m happy, yet depressed about my species and what it portends for our descendants, especially my grandchildren.

Memorial Day: when we reflect on the loss of precious and young lives as a result of alpha male chest beaters. It only takes a few charismatic types to persuade the masses that their best interests are served by violence and war.

I understand your position. Mine is that you cannot claim to honor those that deserve it while following and elevating those who openly mock it and show such disdain for those who sacrificed so much.

I get that. That's why I suggested another thread for that.

Reasonable people can be right and still differ respectfully, as you two do.
