By: Meg Christenson-November 28, 2023 ATLANTA, Ga. – Florida women's basketball will face Georgia Tech Wednesday night in the 2023 ACC/SEC Challenge. The Atlanta based contest will be Florida's first away game of the 2023-24 season after competing on neutral grounds last week in the Baha Mar Tournament. Florida Basketball will Play Georgia Tech for Second Time in Program History - Florida Gators
While Georgia Tech is 5-1, their wins are over Coastal Carolina, Furman, Rice, Kennesaw State and New Mexico. Their loss was to Creighton. They only shoot 29.3% from the 3 point arc and are led by 6'1" JR forward from Orlando Kayla Blackshear at 17.2 ppg and 6.8 rebounds per game. She hasn't made a 3 point shot, but makes 58.7% of her field goal attempts and is 80.6% from the free throw line. Their #2 scorer is 5'9" SO guard from Tallahassee Torrie Morgan at 15.3 ppg and 7.2 rebounds per game. The only other player averaging double figures is 6'0" FR guard from Lithuania by way of Montverde Academy Rusme Augustinaite at 10.2 ppg. She is their primary 3 point shooter, hitting 50%. This is a game the Gators can win, as they should be able to control the paint to offset Tech's quick guards. They need to make a higher percentage of free throws and take care of the ball. Should be a good test.
