Could Richardson be the highest Gator QB ever drafted?

    4. Las Vegas Raiders (via mock trades with CHI/IND)

    Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida

The Richardson hype train is hitting full steam, plowing through Indianapolis on Saturday. Looking at combine results since 2006, he posted the best quarterback vertical (40.5 inches) and broad jump (10-foot-9), and then rolled out a scorching 4.43-second 40, which tied for the fourth-fastest time at the position over that span. Richardson capped off his big day by showcasing his huge arm in the throwing portions of the afternoon.

His physical traits are exciting, and if coach Josh McDaniels can work with him on his footwork and accuracy, the sky's the ceiling. On one hand, Richardson threw 17 touchdown passes -- including three of 40-plus air yards -- and rushed for an FBS QB-high 6.4 yards per carry in 2022. On the other, he completed 54.7% of his throws over 13 career starts. The upside comes with risk, and I do think he might need more time to develop before taking over as an NFL starter. But if the 6-4, 244-pound signal-caller can put it all together, sign me up for big-time throws to Davante Adams and highlight-reel runs on Sundays in Vegas.

Great kid. Great Gator. Once he gets it all dialed in, man...

Still waiting to see Trask put it all together. Watching and waiting for both of them.

    Go Gators.

I agree with his take. If someone drafts him to play immediately I just do not see that ending well.

Unless it’s a Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, Trevor Lawrence, would you really risk your first pick on a QB with ? marks, instead of picking a cornerstone DE that’s also sitting right there?

Exactly. You’re still sitting there with no qb but you have something for the future “if “ you ever find that qb. Finding a qb is the hardest thing in the nfl but wasting picks year after year reaching ensures your entire team takes multiple talent hits. The good teams get talent in the early rounds at a rookie discount price. It’s a crapshoot to find a qb but wasting talent during that search just makes it worse. A qb is an obvious top pick or he’s not. Take will Anderson and keep looking for a qb if you have strong doubts.

IMO, you draft a QB in the first 5 (3?) spots or you wait until the 3rd round at a minimum. There is no way you want to make it imperative that you have to play them to get value out of their draft position. It is like putting $1M on a 50-1 long-shot at the horse races, except there is more at stake than losing money. You lose a potential starter at another position to other teams.

The only real reason you don't do the above is when you see a top 5 talent drop to your position (highly unlikely) or you are desperate for a buzz draft. Short term gain but usually a long term loss.

Well, there is a difference, Kyle is projected to be the starter at Tampa Bay this year. This is based on practice and some game experience. (More pre-seaso9n of course)

AR on the other hand, has much to prove, lifting weights and running shuttles does not automaticly translate into being Tom Brady Jr.

I hope it works out for both of them. Obviously having two recent Gator QB's doing well in the NFL is a + for Gator recruiting and image.

Hold up I thought Richardson was the only risky QB and picking other QB's is always easy and works out well.

For AR to be the highest drafted QB ever from UF he would have to go #2, as SOS went #3.

Thinking back, was 2011 the last time 2 Gator QBs (who finished their careers with Florida) were starters in the NFL in the same season? (Tebow, Grossman)

I think Brissett and Driskel started simultaneously but alas...

Actually in 2019 Brissett, Driskel, and Will Grier all started NFL games.
