I'm sure, but my point was that it isn't costing us a scholarship, so if he is a bust, no harm, no foul.

I said that as soon as nil was a thing and was basically told I had no idea what I was taking about. This isn’t like DJ talking a pwo at all but if enough money is involved, who gives two shits about the scholarship.

This is the new portal reality. A lot of Florida kids get talked into leaving the state, and then aren't happy when they do

An awful lot of kids hit the portal after one year, many in order to be closer to home.

When they don't sign with us initially out of HS, we might want to stow the internet venom, because they could be heading our way in a year.

Most kids don’t sign with us and we have no problem with that. This kid threw shade and created his own drama. I’m behind him now though.

Lot of kids don’t realize how challenging it is to be far from family and friends. Watch their friends go home for the long weekend when they live local and they can’t do the same. Don’t blame any kid that decides to transfer for family reasons.

I did hear walk-ons aren’t allowed access to certain things that scholarship players get. Not sure where that is at this point though.

I said that it wasn’t likely you’re going to fill out the top of the roster with a bunch of talent that’s being heavily recruited and offered scholly’s and money from everyone else. Not that you wouldn’t occasionally get ONE transfer that didn’t see the field at his previous stop and has a reputation for not putting in the work and having an attitude problem. I also said that if one school started doing it, everyone would follow suit.

I still don’t see it as something that will be worthwhile. The bottom of the 85 doesn’t see the field as it is, why do we need another 20 or 30 players eating up NIl money? Buy better players for the 85.. I didn’t say you had no idea what you’re talking about either, just disagreed that it was a worthwhile venture to try to create this fully funded walk on program. I still don’t think it is.

It’s the new reality and we may benefit as much as anyone with the amount of in-state talent. I’ve always said to let another team take on the developmental bill and we can get them down the road a year or two.

Yep, it just depends on how much money is being thrown around. With the top schools approaching 200 mil annually, I wouldn’t be surprised if some buy a few extras. We don’t seem to be able to afford a regular top class as it is but the bidding wars could get out of hand. It wouldn’t surprise me to see some 100 man rosters if the money is there.

My thought is CBN laid it out to him, you can come, as a walk on until you prove your dedication to the team.

Our roster is bigger than that as it is, and we have a handful of pwo’s filling it out. Most of them are kids whose parents donated lots of money and schmoozed their way into getting their kid accepted to UF, but the kid will never see any meaningful pt. Cormani is a little different situation, but I don’t necessarily see this opening the floodgates to what we’ve discussed in the past.

Like I said, if someone sets it up and funds it, more power to them. I personally think the money is better spent on 1-85, than 85-115.

Too be fair, as a PWO he may be getting an NIL deal that covers way more than the basic scholarship covers... NIL blurs the line between being scholarship and a walking since NIL money easily covers cost of school.

My thought is unless he acts like a complete ass once stepping on campus, he’ll get the first scholly available and that will probably happen before the first game this fall. I still like that this is the way we brought him in.

Yes, and I suspect Cormani regretted his decision to go to Colorado and was willing to sacrifice to get back to Florida.

He may also barely be getting enough to cover just tuition. We’ll likely never know.

If you can’t afford 85 legit players you surely can’t afford 100. Past the two deep doesn’t get the coaching as there aren’t enough coaches to go around. That would take a whole extra staff.
