MBB OGT: NCAA Tournament -- (1) FLORIDA vs (3) Texas Tech -- March 29, 2025 -- 6:09 PM [TBS]

It has now been many hours since the epic finish to that game. It has taken me HOURS to process it. I didn't sleep well last night being so energized.

I think that Condon's ankle is OK to play but not 100% right now. Hence Haugh having to one on one guard the Texas Tech guys "backing him down". A fully healthy Condon wouldn't have been backed down like that. He is just much bigger than Tommy. I give Tommy props for good technique but he got over powered a lot.

Texas Tech was VERY physical and I would have thought that playing UT would have prepared us for that but it wasn't the case. I guess the TT game plan was to stop Clayton from shooting any good looks from 3 and instead let him earn only two points from the line. That takes three things away from the Gators: Clayton from 3, Clayton on the assist and Gator game flow.

Now Clayton did hit some HUGE 3's late in the game but some were heavily defended or shots you just never see like him taking it back out from the lane and shooting a quick turn around trey. That was amazing. Earlier in the game he must have been thinking "I can take a really hard shot or pass and maybe we get an easier shot. I trust my teammates." Toward the end it was more like "I want this."

Tommy said it. Clayton is a cold, cold man. Ice.

 

Btw does anybody really know how tall haugh is? I’ve heard anywhere to 6’7 - 6’10 from Stan Grundy yesterday

I can't wait to demolish auburn and make him cry but he is hilarious. The time in his playing days when he told the interviewer," thats why i hate white people" was so funny.

 

I am so glad that kind of drama didn't happen. It was bad enough with all the good things happening (hitting foul shots, getting rebounds) but I would have been physically ill if a shot had gone up in that situation.

 

OK, an analytics question. We are up three with the shot clock off. Doesn't "analytics" as far as many commentators think say that we foul so that they can't shoot a three? Instead we put in three bigs and don't foul and a decent 3 point shooter gets an open look. That was scary.

Works out because he missed and subbing in the extra length helped with getting the defensive rebound but it seemed like the opposite of conventional analytics.

And even if he hits we have the ball with time. Worse case is OT excepting a brain fart.

Now they were in the double bonus and I think every TT guy on the floor was a good FT shooter. So if they make both and then put us on the line we need to hit both to keep it a three point game. We could sub out Chins and Condon if they hit the second FT.

Kind of complicated about how to play this out. Not as simple as foul when up three.

I have to think that Todd had thought out this exact scenario before the game even started. He is that kind of nerd coach.

2024-25 Men's Basketball Roster - Florida Gators

 

He looks every bit of 6’9 in person. Wouldn’t argue with 6’8.

 

So he would be back next year

 

Someone said that certain players would be back except for Chinyelu

 

All of our bigs will be back unless they transfer out or go pro. Condon was projected to be a 1st or 2nd round NBA pick the last I read, so we'll see what he decides to do. I'm pretty sure all the others will be back - Haugh, Micah, Chinyelu and Alexis.

 

I could have sworn he was a senior, but, you're right. The whole front court returns!

There seemed to be a lot of crowd support for the Gators in SF! It was cool to hear the roar when Haugh and Clayton were hitting those clutch buckets in the final minutes. Would love to hear some feedback on who all was watching us play.
